Ausgehend von bisher publizierten Ergebnissen über katalytische Eigenschaften von Technetium wurde die Rolle dieses Elements als promotierende Komponente in Pt-Katalysatoren untersucht. Es wurden Messungen zum Reduktionsverhalten, zur Dispersität und zur katalytischen Aktivität am Beispiel der Aromatenhydrierung durchgeführt. Die Ergebnissc sprechen für das Vorliegen einer Wechselwirkung zwischen beiden Metallen (“Ensemble-Effekt”), die für die Überlegenheit bimetallischer Katalysatoren im Vergleich zu den entsprechenden monometallischen verantwortlich ist.

Es wird die Möglichkeit der radiometrischen Bestimmung der molaren Cs-Konzentration von salpetersauren Lösungen durch substöchiometrische Fällung mit Molybdatophosphorsäure untersucht. Im einzelnen werden die Grundlagen des Fällungsvorganges studiert und Ergebnisse von Probeanalysen im Konzentrationsbereich von 0,3 … 1 mg Cs/ml diskutiert. Die mittlere relative Standardabweichung beträgt ±5%. Aufgrund seiner Einfachheit und hohen Selektivität ist das Verfahren zur Cs-Bestimmung in Kernbrennstofflösungen unter heiβen Bedingungen geeignet. Nach der angegebenen Methode wurde der Cs-Gehalt von zwei Lösungen aus einem Kernbrennstoff des Kernkraftwerkes Nowoworonesh (UdSSR) bestimmt. Die gemessenen Werte stimmen mit den über den137Cs-Gehalt abgeschätzten Werten gut übercin.

Neutron fluxes from a compact D-T neutron source have been measured in paraffin-borax mixtures by using activation foil detectors with successive threshold energies. The absorbed doses, backscattering coefficients and build-up factors were determined as well. The contribution of thermal and intermediate neutron dose is much lower, compared to that of fast neutrons. Among the used mediums, paraffin loaded with 4% borax concentration was found to be the best absorbing medium against neutrons at near depths within the blocks, while at a depth around 12 cm the neutron absorption (or scattering) is independent on the type of the used medium.

As a part of a research program on the treatment of a radioactive process waste water by foam separation techniques, adsorbing colloid flotation was tested to remove144Ce,60Co,65Zn and89Sr from the waste water. Potassium oleate was used as the collector, and Fe(III) hydroxide, Al(III) hydroxide or Co(II) hydroxide as the coprecipitant. Under the optimal conditions, removals exceeding 99% could be achieved for65Zn with any of the tested coprecipitants, for144Ce with Fe(III) and Co(II) hydroxides and for60Co with only Co(II) hydroxide. For89Sr removals > 90% could be achieved with only Fe(III) hydroxide. The adsorbing colloid flotation process was compared with both chemical precipitation and ion exchange, and advantages of adsorbing colloid flotation were enumerated.

Emission rate of fast neutrons from 5 Ci Am-Be neutron source has been studied using LR 115 type II as a solid state nuclear track detector. The analysis shows an anisotropic emission rate from the source, with a difference in the total angular emission rate at different positions from the source. The anisotropy and the difference in the total angular emission rate at different positions from the source may be due to non-uniform mixing and/or non-uniform distribution of Am-Be inside the inner can of the source.
