Forty years ago the experimental physicist Hans Geiger died. His results of research have not only be applied in the form of the hardly surveyable use of the particle counter but have also directly influenced at that time the development of basically physical concepts. A review of Geiger's life and work shall remind us of his physico-historical importance.

A125I-RIA for progesterone determination in cow skim milk, unskimmed milk and blood plasma was developed. Owing to its specificity, accuracy and easy management, it offers itself especially for routine work. First experience has been gained in field studies on fertility control of cows. Even early as one estrus cycle after insemination, non-pregnant cows can be discerned from presumably pregnant ones with a high degree of certainly. This renders possible the desirable soon reinsemination of such cattle. Insemination outside the estrus cycle was found to be one reason for supposed fertility disturbances.

Microvascular complications of diabetes mellitus were extensively studied from many aspects. The aim of this work was to elucidate the possible interplay of insulin, glucagon, prolactin, growth hormone, T3, and T4in pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy. Forty patients with diabetic retinopathy (group II) and twenty age-matched control (group I) were investigated. Plasma levels of both insulin and glucagon were significantly elevated in group II vs group I, but other hormones were insignificantly changed. This work rolles-out the role might be played by T3, T4, growth hormone, and prolactin in the established cases with diabetic retinopathy.

摘要:

Die Darstellung von [3H]-INH durch Wilzbach-Markierung bzw. durch katalytische Austausch-Markierung wird beschrieben. Das gereinigte und auf eine Aktivität von 37 M Bq/300 mg INH eingestellte Präparat entspricht den an ein injizierbares Medikament zu stellenden Anforderungen. Die Markierung erweist sich unter in-vitro-Bedingungen und im Makroorganismus als stabil.

Die Markierung von RMP nach Wilzbach führt zu einer Fragmentierung des RMP-Moleküls. Die Synthese von [3H]-RMP ist durch Umsctzung von 1-Amino-4-[3H] methyl-piperazin mit 3-Formyl-rifamyein SV möglich, sie führt über folgende Stufen: 1-Nitroso-piperazin, 1-Amino-piperazin, 1-Benzal-amino-piperazin, 1-Benzal-amino-4-[3H] methyl-piperazin, 1-Amino-4-[3H] methyl-piperazin-dihydrochlorid. Die Freisetzung der Base aus dem Hydrochlorid erfolgt direkt im Reaktionsansatz in Gegenwart von 3-Formyl-rifamycin SV. Die Umsetzung ist bei Ausschluβ von Sauerstoff und Licht annähernd quantitativ. Das erhaltene Präparat wird durch präparative Dünnschichtchromatographie gereinigt. Nach peroraler Verabreichung an Patienten gibt die [3H]-RMP-Messung in guter Näherung die antimykobakterielle Aktivität wieder, obwohl durch Biotransformationsprozesse in geringem Umfang der markierte Rest abgespalten wird.

Isotopic exchange has been applied for the preparation of35S-labelled methionine, cysteine, dithiooxamide, 2-aminothiazole and sulphanilic acid. On the basis of some preliminary investigations, the suitable conditions for performing the radioactive exchange experiments were identified. Good chemical yields and reasonable radiochemical yields were obtained. The results clearly show that the method is very satisfactory and less laborious as compared to the preparative chemical methods.
