The question wether a sample of a rock or a mineral belongs to an isochronc for radiogeochronological dating or for determining the initial isotopic ratio of the daughter element can be decided by measuring δ18O values. It is shown by means of Schütze's [1] incremental method that there are no limitations in applying this criterion on granitic rocks. In the case of intermediary and basic igneous rocks some knowledge is necessary on the water content of the magma and/or the spatial progress of fractional crystallization.

The migration of radionuclides and other tracers in porous layers is determined by substance transport. The physical and hydraulic basis of retardation is investigated. A definition of a factor of retardation is given, describing the ratio between the pore velocity of the water and the velocity of tracer migration. Consequences to the groundwater protection are discussed.

The use of data obtained from the analysis of tritium within the scope of the complex evaluation as to safety-in-mines of the hazards due to underground brine occurrences is based on a sure avoidance of the contamination of samples during the whole analysis. The article described a method on the recovery of uncontaminated sample water from the available, highly saline brine.

A technique of isotope analysis has been adopted for extremely small-size samples. Amounts of 50–100 nmol of CO2extracted from gaseous inclusions in natural quartz show δ13C values around –24‰ which indicate an organic origin of this gas, while dispersed hydrocarbons extracted from Permian sediments (mainly CH4) have δ13C below –40‰.

Glucose intolerance in elderly had been reported by many investigators. In this study intravenous glucose tolerance test is done for 63 subjects classified into three groups; A (aged 20–40 years), B (aged 40–60 years) and C (aged above 60 years). Signifikant elevation of plasma glucose and insulin with progress of age, and reduction of glucose assimilation as well as insulin stimulating activity and insulin index were observed. No significant differences in plasma glucagon levels or glucagon suppression areas were found among the groups of study; this suggests that glucagon plays no role in reduction of glucose tolerance with aging.

An appraisal of the potentialities and limitations of131I-Rose Bengal has been carried out on the basis of its pharmacokinetics in the rat. The agent is not an ideal hepatobiliary radiopharmaceutical despite its (once) widespread use in clinical nuclear medicine. And hence, a change in the radio nuclidic label would not improve its biological properties.

Serum levels of thyroxine and triidothyronine were estimated in 24 workers engaged in contraceptive pills industry and 20 control subjects. Serum thyroxine in exposed subjects was significantly lower compared to its level in controls. On the contrary, triiodothyronine was significantly higher in exposed workers. So, it is concluded that exposure to the dust of contraceptive drugs, namely estrogen and progesterone, produced disturbances in thyroid gland function and thyroid hormone metabolism.

A method providing enzymatic hydrolysis of15N labelled yeast protein is described. The advantages of the utilization of15N labelled protein hydrolysate for the determination of whole-body protein metabolism parameters of prematurely born subjects and of patients suffering front indigestion are stressed as compared with the utilization of [15N]glycine, [15N]amino-acid mixtures and [15N]yeast protein.
