This study was done to find out if there are certain types of bias in the Interest Check List (ICL) used by employment counselors. If one analyzes the ICL in terms of modal Worker Trait Group (WTG) areas, the concern about the frequency of certain WTG areas takes on added importance. The issue is one of validity. Is it valid to say that if one responds positively to a WTG area that has only N=1 as compared to three positive responses for a WTG area that has N=12, the former is not a modal WTG? The exclusion of certain WTG areas from the ICL is discussed. A final issue is the orientation toward data‐type jobs rather than people or thing jobs in the IC

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a Work Incentive (WIN) Orientation and Assessment Program which was designed to (a) assess enrollee attitudes and abilities, and (b) provide enrollee pre‐employment test orientation.A sample of 155 WIN enrollees was divided into two groups; the experimental group received two weeks of orientation and assessment. Results were obtained by using two criteria: First, the number of terminations prior to completing the EDP was examined for each group, and second, the total number of referrals to each of three major components was examined.Findings revealed a significantly lower number of terminations among the experimental group, but did not yield any difference in the number of referrals per component. It is suggested that further studies of this type include a more refined measure of enrollee success and satisfaction in various WIN component

This study is based on a total population of about 6,200 graduates of electronics and drafting design curriculums from 1955 to 1969. The mobility factors considered in this study are: (a) year of graduation, (b) number of dependents, (c) initial salary, (d) present salary, (e) distance between home‐town high school and present job, (f) distance between home‐town high school and first job, and (g) number of simultaneous job‐resident changes.Zero‐order correlations and multiple regression analyses were used to identify relationships between the mobility factors. The job characteristics of the graduates were identified by curriculum. The interrelationships between the mobility factors and the job characteristics were identified by zero‐order correlation and linear multiple‐regression techniques.It was found that (a) there are a number of significant interrelationships within the mobility factors, and (b) there are a number of significant relationships between job characteristics (data, things, and people related roles) and some of the mobil

The purpose of this study was to identify correlates of effective counseling behavior in employment interviewers as measured by the Kelz Counselor Performance Rating Scale. Four demographic variables were studied: age, length of employment as an employment interviewer for a state employment agency, sex, and level of education. Seventeen employment interviewers employed by the Pennsylvania Bureau of Employment Security served as subjects. Significant negative correlations were found between effective counseling behavior as measured by the Kelz Scale and both age and length of employment as an interviewer for a state agency. No relationship was found between the criterion variable and the sex or level of education of the interviewers. Some possible implications of these findings are discussed and tentative hypotheses presented.
