摘要:
Incidence of pecan bud moth,Gretchena bolliana(Slingerland), larvae on five pecan cultivars,Carya illinoensis(Wang.) K. Koch, and the water hickory,C. aquatica(Michx. f.) Nutt., was evaluated in the nursery. ‘Gloria Grande’ and ‘Stuart’ had significantly larger populations of bud moth than ‘Elliott’, ‘Sumner’, and ‘Desirable’. Numbers of bud moth larvae on orchard trees were significantly higher in the top third of the tree than in the bottom two-thirds, but no directional effect was observed.

摘要:
Host parasitism and progeny production were determined for two strains of the parasitic wasp,Nasonia vitripennis(Walker), reared on house fly,Musca domesticaL., hosts. One strain (NY) was collected in New York State and has been reared in the laboratory for ca. 2 years while the other strain (MA) was originally collected in Woods Hole, Mass., and maintained in the laboratory for 30 years. NY females parasitized>2-fold as many hosts and produced nearly 2-fold as many progeny as MA females. In addition, adult longevity of NY was significantly longer than that of MA. Size of the females, determined by head width measurements, did not differ between the two strains. Differences between the two strains appear to be due either to intrinsic population differences (since each strain was collected in a geographically different region) or to the effects of long-term rearing on the MA strain, or both. Information obtained from this study suggests that NY would probably be more effective as a biological control agent than MA.
