Utilisant les données d'une étude ménee à travers le Canada en 1976, les deux sous‐échantillons cités dans le titre sont comparés en termes de leur conscience des protestations de la part des Amérindiens, et du degré d'approbation envers leurs tactiques spécifiques de protestation. Des niveaux très bas de conscience caractérisent les deux sous‐échantillons, et en particulier, celui des francophones. Alors que ni l'un ni l'autre des sous‐échantillons ne démontre une attitude réactionnaire envers les protestations amérindiennes, les anglo‐phones ressortent avec beaucoup moins d'approbation que les francophones envers l'affirmation protestataire des Amérindiens. Un schéma classificatoire est développé afin de raffiner les concept de réaction (‘back‐lash’).Using data from a 1976 nation‐wide survey, the two subsamples cited in the title are compared in terms of awareness of native Indian protest and degree of (dis)approval of specific protest tactics used by Indians. À l'aide des données du recensement canadien de 1971, les auteurs tentent de mesurer l'incidence de l' appartenance à un groupe linguistique sur le rang social. La recherche porte sur les travailleurs masculins de la région métropolitaine de Montréal et l'indice de Blishen serf de mesure du rang social. Les résultats obtenus indiquent qúen 1971, la performance des travailleurs anglophones, du point de vue du rang social, était supérieure à celle qúauraient dû leur conférer leurs caractéristiques. Sauf pour les anglophones, il était avantageux pour tous les groupes linguistiques d'être bilingues. Pour les allophones, il était préférable de connaître l'anglais et le français plutôt qúune seule des deux langues, quoique l'apprentissage de l'anglais seul était plus rentable que l'apprentissage du français seul. Mais il était surtout rentable de ś intégrer à la communauté anglophone plutôt que d'apprendre seulement l'anglais ou encore les deux langues officielles. Les auteurs concluent que ces résultats concordent avec ceux que laisse pressentir dans un tel cas la théorie des réseaux d'information.Using data from the 1971 Census of Canada, this research assesses the effect of language group membership on the Blishen‐indexed achievement of employed males in the Montreal CMA. The findings reveal that the English mother tongue groups had higher achievement levels than their background characteristics would predict. Bilingualism in both English and French was associated with higher achievements for most groups, the exception being the English language groups. For allophone language groups bilingualism in the official languages was associated with higher attainments than was the acquisition of either French or English. The acquisition of English was, however, associated with higher achievements than was the acquisition of French. Nonetheless, integration into the English language group was associated with higher achievements than was either the learning of English or the acquisition of both official languages.
