摘要:
AbstractDissolved oxygen will pass through most of the common types of plastic tubing. Materials unsuitable for use in sampling water for dissolved oxygen microanalysis are red and black natural rubber and silicone rubber. Polythene tubing has been found permeable above about 50° and some batches of neoprene are also permeable. Only when the internal hydrostatic pressure permanently exceeds 5 Ib./sq. in. does polyvinyl chloride tubing remain impermeable; otherwise it is unsuitable. Nylon appears impermeable up to at least 90°. The observations are explained in terms of a dual mechanism of oxygen diffusion in which two new concepts, namely, assisted and resisted permeability, are introduced. It is suggested that these concepts may have diagnostic use in elucidating the structural mechanism of diffusion in polymer
