AbstractCombined application of Neem‐seed‐kernel‐extract with Bacillus thuringiensis‐products for the control of Spodoptera frugiperda and Aedes togoiFour and ten days old larvae of Spodoptera frugiperda were fed in the laboratory for one to three days with leaves ofRicinus communistreated either with a Neem‐seed‐kernel‐extract (AZT‐VR),Bacillus thuringiensis(Dipel), or a mixture of both. AZT‐VR was tested in concentrations of 25 ppm to 250 ppm, the concentrations of Dipel were 0.1% and 0.5%.Young fourth instar larvae and fourth instar larvae of different age ofAedes togoiwere held in water treated with a Neem‐seed‐kernel‐extract (AZT‐VR‐K),Bacillus thuringiensisvar.israelensis(Teknar), or a mixture of both until adult emergence.The combination of Neem‐seed‐kernel‐extract andB.thuringiensis‐products increased mortality compared to that exerted by each compound alone. Furthermore the combination decreased pupal weight of surviving test insects and reduced the time required to kill 50% of hte larvae ofS. frugiperda. In the tests withA. togoithe dead larvae/dead pupae ratio was shifted to a higher number of killed pupae in the combinations compared to the ratios revealed after application of the compounds alone. In most of the combinations the resultant effect of the two substances was the same as the value expected on the basis of the part‐actions, that is an additive action. In some combinations however, the resultant effect was larger as expected and showed a synergistic action.ZusammenfassungVier und 10 Tage alte Larven vonSpodoptera frugiperdawurden im Labor für 1 bis 3 Tage mit Blättern des Rizinusstrauches (R. communis) gefüttert, die entweder mit einem Extrakt aus Samen des Niem‐Baumes (Antelaea azadirachta = Azadirachta indica) (AZT‐VR), mitBacillus thuringiensisoder mit einer Mischung aus beiden Präparaten behandelt worden waren. Der AZT‐VR‐Extrakt wurde in Konzentrationen von 25 bis 250 ppm,B. thuringiensis(Dipel) in Konzentratio‐nen von 0,1 % und 0,5 % getestet. Junge (0‐16 Std.) und unterschiedlich alte (1‐4 Tage) Viertlarven vonAedes togoiwurden bis zum Schlupf der Imagines in Wasser gehalten, das mit einem Niem‐Samen‐Extrakt (AZT‐VR‐K), einemB. thuringiensisvar.israelensis‐Präparat (Tek‐nar), oder einer Kombination aus beiden Produkten behandelt worden war. Die Kombination von Niem‐Samen‐Extrakt mitB. thuringiensis‐Präpzraten führte sowohl beiS. frugiperdaals auch beiA. togoizu deutlichen Wirkungssteigerungen im Vergleich zu den erzielten Wirkungsgraden nach Applikation der jeweiligen Mittel alleine. Diese Wirkungssteigerung drückte sich beiS. frugiperdaauch durch verminderte Puppengewichte der überlebenden Versuchstiere aus, und durch eine Verkürzung des Zeitraumes bis zur Erzielung einer Mortalitätsrate von 50 %. BeiA. togoikam die Wirkungssteigerung durch eine Veränderung des Verhältnisses zwischen toten Larven und toten Puppen innerhalb der Varianten mit kombinierter Applikation im Vergleich zu den Varianten mit Applikation der Einzelkomponenten zum Ausdruck. In den meisten Fällen war der Gesamteffekt der Kombination gleich dem Erwartungswert, d. h. es lag eine additive Wirkung

AbstractSelected aspects of the biology ofGlyptapanteles flavicoxis(Marsh) were investigated. A nutrient source like honey was found to be an important influence on adult parasitoid longevity. A series of experiments were conducted to determine the influence of adult parental sex ratio and female density on progeny production and sex ratio. Neither had a significant influence.ZusammenfassungZum Einfluß von Zuchtbedingungen auf die Lebensdauer und die Vermehrung von Glyptapanteles flavicoxis (Marsh)Es wurden ausgewählte Aspekte zur Biologie vonG. flavicoxisuntersucht und herausgefunden, daß Nahrungsquellen wie z. B. Honig, einen wichtigen Einfluß auf die Lebensdauer adulter Parasitoide haben. In einer Versuchsreihe sollte der Einfluß des Geschlechterverhältnisses der Elterngeneration sowie der Weibchenmenge auf die Anzahl der Nachkommenschaft und deren Geschlechterverhältnis untersucht werden; jedoch konnte in keinem Fall ein signifikanter Einfluß nachgewiesen
