摘要:
AbstractTortula brevis sp. nov.is described. It differs fromT. stanfordensisin having leaves with larger cells, a more acute apex and a larger apiculus; also in the occasional presence of gemmae on the leaves, and in having an autoecious (rarely synoecious) inflorescence.T. brevishas a gymnostomous capsule borne on a seta only 2 mm long. The calyptra is cucullate and covers two-thirds of the capsule. Maleinflorescences and young sporophytes (2-3 mm long) ofT. stanfordensishave been found at Hoarwithy, Herefordshire,leg.J. A. Paton, 8 April 1968. All other populations ofT. stanfordensisappear to be female only.T. brevishas a chromosome number ofn= 52 or, more rarely,n= 26. That ofT. stanfordensisisn= 13.T. brevisis known from river banks and trampled ground in the Thames and Tweed river basins.T. stanfordensisis frequent on the banks of the rivers Severn and Wye and occurs at scattered localities elsewhere in England and Wales, and also in Scotland, Ireland and France. It is widespread in California and is known from four localities in Victoria, Australia.

摘要:
AbstractSpagnum skyense(Sect.Acutifolia)sp. nov. can be recognized in the field by its robust appearance, its convex and predominantly reddish capitula, its pale red stem and its large and broadly triangular to triangular-lingulate stem leaves. Microscopically, it is recognized by the common occurrence of fibrils in the stem leaves, the occasional occurrence of pores in the stem cortex, and the large and broad cells of the divergent branch leaves. The new species show similarities to S.quinquefarium(Braithw.) Warnst. and S.subnitensRuss.&Warnst. ssp.subnitens.It is recorded from ericaceous heath on the Isle of Skye, north-west Scotland.

摘要:
AbstractTwo subspecies ofSphagnum imbricatumoccur in Britain and Ireland. Ssp.austinii(Sull.) Flatberg normally forms orange-brown hummocks on raised bogs and blanket bogs, but lax greenish forms can occur in very wet situations. Ssp.affine(Ren.,&Card.) Flatberg occurs as loose greenish or yellow-brown tufts in flushbogs, ditches, acidic marshes and wet woods.Sphagnum degeneransWarnst., from Cheshire, is a synonym ofS. palustreL.

AbstractThe specimen ofCrossidium geheebiifrom Sinai, reduced to synonymy withC. aberransby Delgadillo (1975), is shown to belong toC. geheebii. The disjunct Sinai - Australia, New Zealand distribution is interpreted as a relict of the Xerothermic Pangaean distribution pattern.

摘要:
AbstractCalymperes dozyanumMitt. is recognized as a misapplied name. It is proposed that the taxon described under this name by Fleischer (1904) should be known by its earliest valid combination,Calymperes boulayiBesch., and thatC. dozyanumMitt. should become a synonym ofC. moluccenseSchwaegr. The features that distinguish the hitherto confused speciesC. boulayi[=C. dozyanumsensu Fleischer] andC. graeffeanumare outlined and the nomenclature revised.Calymperes hispidumRen.&Cardot and a form of this species superficially resemblingC. graeffeanumare described.
