摘要:
AbstractDitrichum cornubicumsp. nov. is a small plant with obtuse leaf apices, and tubers on the rhizoids, and has been assigned toDitrichumsomewhat tentatively because female inflorescences and sporophytes are unknown. It has been gathered in two areas in Cornwall where copper and tin were formerly extracted, and its habitat is described.

摘要:
AbstractEvidence is presented contradicting claims that tubers occur on the rhizoids ofCeratodon purpureus(Hedw.) Brid. These claims are believed to have arisen through confusion with other plants, particularlyDicranella staphylinaWhiteh.,Barbula arcuataGriff. andDitrichum pusillum(Hedw.) Britt. An account is given of the tubers ofB. arcuata.

摘要:
AbstractVariation in British material ofSphagnum capillaceum(Weiss) Schrank andS. rubellumWils. was studied by principal component analysis. No evidence was found for the existence of discrete taxa. The characters that have been used to distinguish the two were indeed correlated, but the correlations were not strong enough to justify retention ofS. rubellumeven as a variety.

摘要:
AbstractTwo new species of Acaulon,A. chrysacanthumandA. leucochaeteare characterized by lamellae on the adaxial surface of the nerve and are placed in a new subgenus,Alaticosta. Acaulon chrysacanthumhas leaves with the nerve excurrent as a stout reddish-gold arista, and brown papillose spores, 30–35µm in diameter.Acaulon leucochaetehas the nerve excurrent as a long colourless flexuose hair point and buff-coloured spores, more finely papillose and 23–25µm in diameter. Both are species of semi-arid areas usually growing on red sandy soil in mallee scrub.

摘要:
AbstractA new species,Pleuridium curvisetum, is described. It has an arched seta similar to that ofP. arnoldiiand was collected, sometimes in association with that species, in alpine country in Australia. P. arnoldii was first recorded from New Zealand. A comparison of the two species revealed some features, including a bistratose margin to the leaf subula, not previously reported forP. arnoldii.
