摘要:
AbstractForrstroemia secundaDix.&Badhw. [=Bryonorrisia secunda(Dix.&Badhw.) Stark&Buck] is reduced to synonymy withBryonorrisia acutifolia(Mitt.) Enrothcomb. nov.(basionymAnomodon acutifoliusMitt.). The monotypicBryonorrisiaStark&Buck is transferred from the Anomodontaceae to the Leskeaceae on the basis of gametophyte and sporophyte characters. It is emphasized thatBryonorrisiais closely related toHerpetineuron(C. Müll.) Card. as well as a few other leskeaceous genera, but sufficiently distinct to be recognized as an independent genus.

摘要:
AbstractThe habitat of glaciokarst plains in the Dolomites corresponds to ancient cirques carved by glaciers during the Pleistocene era and now determined by karstic processes. It has a rich bryological flora (eighty-seven species). Some of them proved to be statistically significant for indicating vegetation types. The latter are clearly correlated with different types of karstic landforms, each of which corresponding to a well-defined microenvironment.

摘要:
AbstractLight-capture efficiency of the microstructure of protonemal colonies ofScoplophila cataractae, was investigated. Colonies situated at shaded locations and not facing the direction of canopy openings showed a wave-like structure, consisting of mostly parallel laminae extending 2–12 mm from the vertical surface of the substrate. Light irradiance was estimated to be 2.0–2.5 times higher on the upper surfaces of the laminae than on the stone base on which the moss was growing. The wave-like structure is a result of the growth of fibrous protonemal cells perpendicular to the main direction of the incident light. A correlation was found between the height of a lamina and its distance from the adjacent lamina, indicating self-thinning processes during formation of the lamina structure.

摘要:
AbstractBackground, reference, and instructional information is provided to enable the best possible photographic recording of mosses and similar plants, using equipment that is generally available from High Street outlets; specialist techniques rely more on improvisation than on specialist equipment. About half of the paper consists of straight forward instructions and hints for photography ranging from habitat shots to extreme macro, and dealing with special categories including luminous mosses, time sequence, and capsules. A step-by-step basic example of procedure is provided for a simple macro setup for field work. The paper presumes a basic photographic understanding, but elaborates on those aspects that are particularly relevant to moss photography. Sections deal with determining image magnification, and recording procedures. A close-up flash calculator dial (original) is provided, with instructions to help with flash exposure for all natural history work. Also an appendix of relevant formulas (some original) is provided, as are graphs (both original) for depth of field and resolution at all apertures and magnifications up to×10, for all subjects.
