摘要:
AbstractRadula jonesii, a new species from Tenerife (Spain, Canary Islands) is characterised by paroecious gametoecia; the arched bases of the leaf lobes never crossing the stem; uniformly thin-walled leaf cells; long, cylindrical perianth with lobed mouth; stem cells fairly homogeneous, in cross-section with heavily thickened, trigonous walls.

摘要:
AbstractIn theory, the E-W location and high elevation of the Neovolcanic Belt have reduced floristic flow between parts of northern and southern Mexico. However, this barrier effect is not complete, as may be inferred from the distribution of moss taxa in adjacent areas. Migration across the Neovolcanic Belt may account for the presence of many moss species on either side of this mountain range. Moss exchange may take place through topographic discontinuities herewith designated as floristic corridors. There are at least seven such inland corridors as well as the two coastal plain areas. The latter are probably very important in the latitudinal distribution of lowland species from the tropics northward. The moss flora of the Tuxpan corridor in Michoacan includes lowland species and corridor taxa which have reached or crossed the Neovolcanic Belt from the south if of tropical derivation. The remaining mosses are high elevation species or taxa of broad altitudinal distribution which have spread along the mountains.

摘要:
AbstractA survey of mosses undertaken on the plateau region of Zambia resulted in the collection of eighty-eight species representing twenty-eight families. A total of seventy-three species of mosses have been reported from Zambia up to 1983, but this report provides an additional sixty-one species The preliminary pattern of distribution reveals that out of the eighty-eight species collected, sixty-two occur in the woodlands and riparian forests while twenty-six are restricted to the humid, waterfall sites.

摘要:
AbstractSphagnum pylaisiiBrid. occurs in north-western Spain in areas with mean annual precipitation exceeding 1500 mm. It is characteristic of denuded places in acid fens on shallow peat, generally over granitic bedrock. Water stays above ground-level in winter but may drop below−50 cm in summer. A comparison with its habitat in Brittany, France and Northern America is made. Its distribution in Northern Spain and Europe is illustrated.

摘要:
AbstractShoots ofBrachythecium rutabulum, Lophocolea bidentata, Plagiomnium undulatum, Pseudoscleropodium purumandThuidium tamariscinumwere allowed to grow in contact with litter ofUrtica dioica, Succisa pratensis, Holcus lanatus, A venula pratensis, Pseudoscleropodium purumand soils of contrastee,-fertility. All the species were positively growth-stimulated when grown in contact with the stem litter ofUrtica dioicaand the fertile soil. The other treatments included did not enhance significantly the growth of the five bryophyte species. An attempt is made to relate these responses to the ecology of the species and the possible role that plant litter might exert upon bryophyte distribution in herbaceous vegetation.

摘要:
AbstractThe desiccation-tolerant moss,Grimmia laevigata, dominates the vegetation on exposed granitic boulders at a semi-arid site in southern California but fails to occur in especially xeric microsites, on overhanging surfaces, and on boulders of southfacing hillsides. It was hypothesized that establishment, rather than adult survival, limits the microdistribution of the moss. As predicted, adult plants transplanted to these microsites outside the observed microdistribution of the species showed no evidence of reduced function after one year. However, direct studies of establishment are required to confirm the hypothesis. Differences in net photosynthesis and chlorophyll content among transplants suggested that these characteristics were phentotypically plastic and changed with light availability. In the absence of potential photodamage,G. laevigatacan completely conserve chlorophyll during desiccation for at least twenty months.

摘要:
AbstractPigment content (chi a and phaeo-pigments) of phytobenthos (mainly mosses and some small algae) were studied in December 1985, after a dry period, and in May 1986, after a period of rain. Chi a increases in submerged plants, carotene/chi a ratios and phaeo-pigment increase following emergence. Seasonal fluctuations in pigments can be related to variations in microclimate caused by changes in river level.
