摘要:
AbstractCephaloziella nicholsoniDouin&Schiffn. is reinstated as a distinct species. It differs fromC. massalongiin its wider stem cells, larger, less papillose leaf cells and larger gemmae, generaly paroecious inflorescence, more highly connate, larger-celled♀bracts and longer perianth mouth cells, and in twice the number of chromosomes. It grows on cupriferous substrata and is often associated withC. massalongibut is less widespread.C. aerana(Pears.) K. Muell. is shown to be synonymous withC. massalongi.

摘要:
AbstractTortula papillosawas the dominant plant on a buttressed and tarred roadside wall in Slapton, Devon. Earlier reports describe the species as nitrophilous. Its abundance on pitch points to rather specific growth requirements. The species seems to benefit from some aspects of human activity but not from others.

摘要:
AbstractA new species ofUleobryum, U. curtisii, collected in Queensland, Australia is described. It differs from the only otherspecies,U. peruvianumfrom South America, particularly in the multipapillose lamina cells and the smoother calyptra. Axillary bulbils were present in one population.

摘要:
AbstractCrossidium asirenseis characterized by erect-spreading, ovate-Ianceolate, mucronate leaves, partially revolute leaf margins, thin-walled filaments restricted to the costa, lamina cells with 1–2 papillae on both sides and a central strand consisting of 6–9 hydroids. Morphologically this species is related toC. aberrans(Egypt, Algeria, North America),C. apiculatumandC. spiralifolium(both South Africa). The type is from the Asir Mountains (south-west Saudi Arabia).

摘要:
AbstractA new moss,Sciaromium lacustreHerzog&Richards, from Lake Titicaca (Peru) is described. It dominates one of the zones of submerged macrophyte vegetation and is found to a depth of at least 29 m. The occurrence of mosses in deep lakes is briefly reviewed and attention is drawn to their tolerance of high hydrostatic pressures.

摘要:
AbstractThe occurrence ofEccremidium, a rare pygmy moss, in Brazil, South America, is reported. Though it is conspecific with the recently describedE. floridanumCrum the differences are highlighted for a better understanding of the variable nature of the species and its relationship with the Australian and South AfricanE. exiguum.

摘要:
AbstractTransmission electron microscope and X-ray microanalyser studies were carried out on the cells of mercury accumulating aquatic liverwortJungermannia vulcanicolafrom Kashiranashigawa Stream. The mercury which is accumulated from stream water is mainly located in the cell wall in the form of electron dense particles having the size range 0.01–0.1μm up to 0.2μm. The chemical form of the mercury in the electron dense particles is a mercury-sulphur compound, probably mercuric sulphide, which is not toxic to living organisms.
