ABSTRACTTetralogy of Fallot is the commonest cause of cyanotic congenital heart disease in the dog. Previous attempts at surgical treatment have been confined to palliative systemic to pulmonary arterial shunts. We describe the clinical presentation, cardiac catheterization and angiographic diagnosis of Fallot's tetralogy in a young Boxer dog. Total intracardiac correction was successfully embarked upon with the use of cardiopulmonary by‐pass. Postoperatively there was a marked improvement in his exercise tolerance. ABSTRACTThree conditions of the cornea in the dog are described; a form of corneal dystrophy (central/paracentral lipid dystrophy, lipidosis, lipoidosis, cholesterolosis), degeneration (fatty and calcareous degeneration) and infiltration (arcus lipoides corneae, anterior embryotoxon, pre‐senile arcus). ABSTRACTThe clinical features and treatment of an unusual type of chronic keratoconjunctivitis occurring specifically in the domestic cat are described in a series of five patients. The disease is characterized by the appearance of distinctive plaques of chronic inflammatory tissue on the corneal and conjunctival surfaces. Corneal biopsy material from two of the patients demonstrated the presence of an unidentified eosinophilic deposit within the anterior corneal stroma and epithelium. Although treatment may include keratectomy, cure is perhaps most easily affected using megestrol acetate therapy.

ABSTRACTThe clinical findings, diagnosis and treatment of 22 cases of canine empyema are reported. Relevant presenting signs were tachypnoea or dyspnoea with pyrexia of variable duration, usually with a history of transient response to antibiotic therapy. Diagnosis was made by radiographic demonstration of free pleural fluid followed by bacterial examination of thoracic aspirates. Treatment consisted of parenteral administration of antibiotics accompanied, in most cases, by removal of the exudate either by aspiration, drainage through an indwelling cannula or thoracotomy. Sixteen dogs recovered from the initial illness. Two of these were destroyed within four months as a result of recurrence and the remaining fourteen survived in good health for follow up periods between six months and seven years after treatment.
