Absract—Comparatively few intraocular and retrobulbar tumors have been documented in the veterinary literature of the world. Their occurrence, while common, is not as rare as supposed. This series consists of nine intraocular and seven retrobulbar tumors encountered within a nine year period. Criteria as an aid to recognition, and surgical procedures applicable to the individual case, is offered.Zusammenfassung—Verhältnismässig wenige Fälle von intraokulären und retrobulbären Tumoren wurden im tierärztlichen Schrifttum der Welt dokumentiert. Ihr Auftreten ist nicht so selten, wie angenommen wird. Diese Serie besteht aus neun introkulären und sieben retrobulbären Geschwülsten, die der Verfasser innerhalb von neun Jahren diagnostizierte. Diagnose und Chirurgie der einzelnen Fälle werden besprochen.Résumé—Les publications vétérinaires de l'univers semblent n'avoir jamias fait grand cas des tumeurs intra‐oculaires et rétro‐bulbaires chez le chien. On constate régulirèment leur apparition; elles ne sont donc pas aussi rares qu'on le suppose. Le présent article traite de neuf tumeurs intraoculaires et de sept tumeurs rétro‐bulbaires rencontrées durant neuf années de pratique. Abstract—In comparative animal experiments the efficacy of distemper and distemper‐hepatitis vaccines from various sources was examined. The effect of inoculation was assessed by serological examination for antibodies neutralising distemper and canine hepatitis (CVH) viruses. It was found that:1The value of the vaccine against distemper and CVH was mainly dependent upon the nature of the antigens used.2Attenuated distemper virus adapted to cultures of dog kidney epithelium present in vaccine D and vaccine DH induced levels of distemper antibodies in the sera of inoculated dogs that were about ten times higher than those induced by vaccines containing egg‐adapted virus.3Dogs vaccinated with homologous tissue culture preparations developed detectable serum antibodies more rapidly than dogs inoculated with the other vaccines tested.4Combined distemper‐hepatitis vaccines containing live distemper and inactivated hepatitis viruses were shown to be better than vaccines containing both viruses in the live state.5The combination of live distemper virus and inactivated hepatitis virus favours the undisturbed development of a strong protection against distemper as well as the development of a reliable immunity against viral hepatitis.6Although live attenuated CVH antigen produces good protection against viral hepatitis it may cause side effects such as corneal opacity. Moreover the live virus is excreted in the urine and may be spread.7When maternal CVH antibodies are present active immunisation can be achieved with inactivated CVH antigens but not with live antigens.Zusammenfassung—In vergleichenden tierexperimentellen Untersuchungen ist die Wirksamkeit von Staupe‐ und Staupe‐H.c.c.‐Vaccinen verschiedener Herstellung geprüft worden. Ein Vergleich des Impfeffektes wurde durch serologische Untersuchung auf Staupe‐ und H.c.c. virusneutralisierende Antikörper an Versuchshunden vorgenommen. Es wurde gefunden dass:1Der Wert der Vaccinen gegen Staupe und H.c.c. massgeblich von der Art der verwendeten Antigene abhängt.2Das in der Vaccine D und Vaccine DH enthaltene attenuierte an Hundenierenepithelkulturen adaptierte Staupevirusantigen zu einem signifikantenca.lo mal höheren Staupeantikörperspiegel im Serum der Impflinge führt, als die eiadaptiertes Virus enthaltenden Vergleichsvaccinen.3Die mit homologen Gewebekulturprrparaten vaccinierten Hunde rascher nachweisbare Serumantikörper entwickelten als mit Vergleichsvaccinen.4Bei Verwendung von Staupe‐H.c.c.‐Vaccinen sich die Kombination zwischen einem lebenden Staupe‐und einem inaktivierten H.c.c.‐Virus der Verbindung von zwei lebenden Viren überlegen erwies.5Die Kombination zwischen einem lebenden Staupe‐und einem inaktivierten H.c.c.‐Virus begünstigte die ungestörte Entwicklung eines kräftigen Schutzes gegen Staupe führte aber auch zur Entwicklung einer verlässlichen Immunität genge H.c.c.6Die Verwendung lebender attenuierter H.c.c.‐Antigene bedingte zwar bei empfänglichen Welpen einen bevorzugten Schutz gegen H.c.c. führte aber auch zu Nebenreaktionen wie Korneatrübung Ausscheidung des H.c.c.‐Virus mit dem Harn und Weiterverbreitung desselben.7Bei Vorhandensein maternaler H.c.c.‐Antikörper gelang es nur mit inaktivierten H.c.c.‐Antigenen aktiv zu immunisieren nicht aber mit lebenden.Résumé—Au cours d'expériences de compariason faites sur des animaux, l'efficacité des vaccines de maladie canine et d'hépatite, provenant de sources diverges, fut examinée. L'effet de l'inoculation, pour des anticorps neutralisant les virus de la maladie et de l'hépatite canines, fut évalué par un examen sérologique. Les constatations suivantes furent faites:—1La valeur du vaccin, contre la maladie canine et l'HCV (Hépatite canine virale) dépendait surtout de la nature des antigènes employés.2Un virus de maladie canine, atténué, adaptéà des cultures d'épiwélium de rein de chien, présent dans le vaccin D et le vaccin DH, provoqua, dans les serums des chiens inoculés, des degrés d'anticorps de maladie canine 10 fois plus élevés que ceux provoqués par des vaccines contenant un virus à adaptation ovoide.3Des chiens vaccines avec des préparations à culture de tissus homologues développèrent des anticorps détectables de sérum, plus rapidement que les chiens inoculés avec les autres vaccines testées.4Des vaccines de maladie canine et d'hépatite combinées, contenant les virus vivants de maladie canine, et les virus inactivés d'hépatite, prouvèrent être meilleures que des vaccines contenant ces deux virus à l'état vivant.5La combinaison du virus vivant de la maladie canine et du virus inactivé de l'hépatite favorise le développement, sans obstacles, d'une protection solide contre la maladie canine ainsi que le développement d'une immunité sûre contre l'hépatite virale.6Bien qu'un antigène vivant, mais atténué, de HCV produise une bonne protection contre l'hépatite virale, il pourrait provoquer des effets secondaires telle que l'opacité cornéale. De plus, le virus vivant est excrété dans l'urine et peut ainsi se répandre.7Quand des anticorps maternels d'HCV sont présent

Abstract—The effect of norethisterone acetate in allaying the signs of oestrus was investigated in forty bitches. The drug was found to be effective for this purpose. The apparent lack of toxicity of the progesterone‐like drug is discussed. Possible lines for farther investigation are mentioned.Résumé—L'action de Pacétate de noréthistérone comme modérateur des signes d'oestrus fut étudie sur quarante chiennes. Le médicament, employéà cet effet, se révéla efficace. L'auteur discute l'absence apparente de toxicitè de cette progrestèrone synthètique.
