摘要:
ABSTRACTTrials were conducted to evaluate the anthelmintic effect of a combination of epsiprantel at a dose rate of 5‐5 mg/kg bodyweight and pyrantel pamoate at 5 mg pyrantel base/kg againstToxocara canisin prenatally infected unweaned greyhound pups,Toxascaris leonina, Uncinaria stenocephala, Trichuris vulpisandDipylidium caninumin naturally infected adolescent greyhounds andAncylostoma caninum, U stenocephala. Taenia hydatigenaandTaenia pisiformisin artificially infected laboratory beagles. The product was well accepted and produced no obvious side effects. Percentage efficacy values based on post mortem worm counts were:T hydatigena100;T pisiformis100;D caninum100; adult Tcanis84‐0; adult Tleonina96‐5; immatureT leonina99‐8;U stenocephala99‐0 and 87‐7;A caninum92‐7; an

摘要:
ABSTRACTUnilateral corneal epithelial inclusion cysts are recorded in a series of 16 dogs. The cysts were not congenital, there was no breed incidence, and in 11 patients there was history of corneal trauma or ulceration before cyst formation. There was some variability in clinical presentation, and sight was affected in six dogs. Fifteen patients were treated successfully by superficial keratectomy without cyst recurrence.

摘要:
ABSTRACTDogs with clinical signs typical of cauda equina syndrome require careful evaluation to determine the cause of the disease as this strongly influences choice of treatment. Possible aetiologies include congenital or developmental, inflammatory, traumatic, neoplastic, and degenerative lesions that may involve vertebrae, vertebral joints, intervertebral discs, spinal cord, spinal nerves, or meninges. It must be determined whether clinical signs are due to musculoskeletal or neurological disease before performing special radiographic procedures. Non‐contrast radiography permits false‐positive diagnosis of obvious degenerative changes involving the L‐S disc that may be without clinical signs or permits a false‐negative diagnosis due to the failure to appreciate soft tissue lesions not seen radiographically. Special radiographic techniques are recommended and include: (1) stress radiography, (2) discography, and (3) epidural myelography. Evaluation of the results of these studies assists in determining the cause of the cauda equina syndrome and the type of therapy r

摘要:
ABSTRACTAfter non‐surgical primary treatment (aspiration) of gastric torsion 189 dogs underwent fundupexy to prevent recurrence. The fundic surface of the stomach was subjected to diathermy spot coagulation after which the fundus was fixed in its normal position against the diaphragm using non‐absorbable sutures in several rows. Of the 189 dogs operated on two died from intercurrent disease within eight days. Of the 187 dogs which were discharged from the clinic 144 (77 per cent) were available for follow‐up. The median follow‐up period was 31 months and 28 dogs had a follow‐up of between five and eight years. Two of the dogs were destroyed within a year postoperatively because of recurring tympanism and a third dog after one‐and‐a‐half years because of recurrent diarrhoea. The general condition was unaffected in the rem

摘要:
ABSTRACTThe clinical and pathological findings in 45 shih tzu dogs with progressive nephropathy due to renal dysplasia are described. There was no sex dependence and the age at death/euthanasia varied from seven weeks to nine years, with a mean age of two years. The most common clinical signs were depression, polydipsia and vomiting. All dogs showed elevated blood urea levels and most passed dilute urine. Proteinuria and anaemia were the most common findings. At necropsy all dogs had small, lobulated, pale kidneys with capsular adhesion. Multiple cysts in the cortex and in the intermediary zone were found in most cases. The morphological changes were three different types based on microscopic examination:1Primary dysplastic lesions; where fetal glomeruli were the most consistent finding.2Compensatory changes; where hypertrophy and hyperplasia of the glomerular tufts and tubules were most frequently observed.33 Inflammatory lesions and fibrosis were found in all cases.4A genetic study of 37 dogs suggests a simple recessive mode of inheritance. Based on this information a control scheme against renal dysplasia has been instigated.
