Abstract—Thirty‐one cases of achalasia of the oesophagus in the dog were diagnosed during seven years. Thirteen cases could not be operated upon, because of death before operation or refusal by the owners. In eighteen cases with cardioplasty, seven were lost for a variety of reasons, some concerned with the operation, others not. Asphyxia by aspiration or foreign body pneumonia was shown to be an important cause of death before or after operation.Résumé—Trente‐et‐un cas d'achalasie de l'oesophage chez le chien ont été diagnostiqués pendant sept ans. Treize cas n'ont pas pu éCtre opérés à cause de mort avant l'opération ou à cause du refus de leurs maǐtres. De dix‐huit cas avec cardioplastie, sept ont été perdus pour une variété de raisons liées ou pas avec l'opération. Asphyxie par aspiration ou pneumonie par corps étrangers ont été des causes importantes de mort, avant ou après l'opération.Zusammenfassung—Im Laufe von sieben Jahren wurden einunddreissig Fälle von Achalasie der Speiseröhre beim Hund festgestellt. Davon konnten dreizehn Fälle infolge Todes vor der Operation bzw. durch Verweigerung der Besitzer nicht operiert werden. Von achtzehn Fällen entfielen bei Anwendung der Kardioplastik sieben aus Operationsgruenden und anderen Ursachen. Abstract—A radiographic study of epiphyseal union of the canine appendicular skeleton—and it is reported that variation in the ossification pattern exists between siblings, that there is a wider difference between unrelated dogs of the same breed and a marked discrepancy between randomly selected dogs. Thus this criterion can only be used at best, as a crude indication of the age of a puppy.Résumé—Une étude radiographique de l'union epiphysienne du squelette appendiculaire du chien —il est rapporté qu'il existe une variation dans le schéma de Possification chez les enfants de méCme parents, qu'il y a une plus ample différence entre les chiens non‐apparentés et appartenant à la méCme race et une divergence très marquee entre des chiens choisis au hasard. Par ce fait, ces criteriums ne peuvent éCtre employés qu'au mieux comme indication possible de l'ǎge du chiot.Zusammenfassung—Eine radiographische Studie über die Knochenendevereinigung des appendikularen Hundeskeletts—es wird auch berichtet, dass Verände rungen in den Verknöcherungsschemen bei Geschwisterhunden vorkommen und ein grösserer Unterschied zwischen nicht‐verwandten Hunden derselben Rasse sowie ein auffallender Widerspruch bei aufs Geradewohl gewählten Hunden besteht. Abstract—During the period 1960‐1961, 1819 birds were received for treatment at the Animal Hospital at Emdrup, Copenhagen. Of these, 148 were treated for diseases of the reproductive organs (8 male and 140 female). The symptoms and treatment of ovarian cysts and tumours, egg‐binding, prolapse of the oviduct, and salpingitis are described. Cysts and tumours were observed in twenty‐two cases, and of these thirteen have been cured. Retention of egg: observed in thirty‐six cases, cured in thirty‐two. Prolapsus ovid: observed in thirty‐eight cases, cured in eighteen. Salpingitis: observed in forty‐two cases, cured in thirty‐five.Résumé—Pendant la période 1960‐1961, 1819 oiseaux ont été traǐtés à l'hǒpital d'animaux à Emdrup, Copenhague. Parmi ceaux‐ci 148 furent soignés puor des maladies des organes de reproductions (8 males et 140 femelles). Les symptomes et le traǐtement des tumeurs et kystes ovariens, rétention de l'oeuf, chute de l'oviducte et salpingites sont tous décrits.Des kystes et des tumeurs furent observés dans 21 cas, et parmi ceux‐ci treize ont été guéris.Retention de l'oeuf: observée dans trente six cas, trente deux guéris.Prolapsus de l'oeuf: observé dans trente huit cas, dix huit guéris.Salpingites: observée dans quarente deux cas, trente cinq guéris.Zusammenfassung—Von 1960 bis 1961 wurden 1819 Vogel zur Behandlung in das Tierlazarett in Emdrup, Kopenhagen, eingeliefert. Davon wurden 148 (8 Männchen und 140 Weibchen) auf Krankheiten der Fortpflanzungsorgane behandelt. Es werden die Symptome und Behandlung von Eierstockzysten und Geschwulsten, Eirentention, Inversion der Eileiter und Salpingitis beschrieben. Zysten und Geschwulste wurden in zweiundzwanzig Fällen beobachtet, wovon dreizehn geheilt wurden. Eirentention wurde in sechsunddreissig Fällen beocachtet und in zweiundreissig Fallen beheilt: in achtunddreissig Fällen wurde Prolapsus ovid gefunden, davon wurden achtsehn geheilt; Salpingitis kam in zwieunvierzig F

Abstract—Aspects of development of the canine heart were investigated. During postnatal growth, a linear relationship between heart weight and total body weight was found. There was a decrease in heart rate after 2 weeks of age which was not correlated with alterations in size of the heart but with increasing vagal tone for atropine caused the greatest increase in heart rate from the resting level at 2 weeks of age. Rearing pups under conditions of stress (supra‐normal stimulation or “handling”) abolished the vagal‐slowing which occurred in normal pups at 2 weeks of age. A marked increase in heart rate (increased sympathetic tone) was observed in these handled subjects and it was surmised that early experience (e.g. stress factors in early life) can significantly modify the ontogeny of the heart. The clinical significance of these observations is discussed.Résumé—Les aspects du developpement du coeur du chien ont été investigués. Durant la croissance postnatale, une relation linéaire entre le poids du coeur et le poids total du corps a été trouvée. Il y a eu un décroissement dans le taux du coeur après 2 semaines, décroissement qui n'est pas en corrélation avec les alterations dans la taille du coeur mais avec un accent pneumogastrique augmentant car l'atropine a causé la plus grande augmentation des battements du coeur du repos à 2 semaines. Elever des chiots sous des conditions de contrainte (stimulation supra‐normale ou “maniement’) abolit le ralentissement pneumogastrique qui survient chez des chiens normaux à 2 semaines. Une augmentation marquée des battements du coeur (accent sympathique augmenté) a été observed chez ces sujets manipulés et il a été conjectureé qu'une expérience précoce (c.a.d. des facteurs de contrainte dans le jeune ǎge) peut modifier d'une maniere significative Pontogenèse du coeur. La signification clinique de ces observations a été discutée.Zusammenfassung—Einige Faktoren über die Entwicklung des Hundeherzes wurden untersucht. In den Tagen nach der Geburt, eine linealische Beziehung zwischen dem Herzgewicht und Körpergewicht wurde festgesetzt. Abnahme der Herzfrequenz tratt nach 2 Wochen an, und hatte keine Beziehung mit den Anderungen der Herzgrösse. Diese Abnahme ist mit zunehmenden Vagustonus verbunden, Atropine verursachte die grösste Herzfrequenz im Alter von 2 Wochen. Vagustonus konnte man nicht in jungen Hunden finden welche unter Aufstrengung aufgezogen waren (supra‐normale Reizung oder “handling’). In diesen Hunden eine auffallende Verstarkung der Herzfrequenz wurde gefunden, (erhöht sympathischer tonus) und man kann vermuten dass fr
