摘要:
ABSTRACTThe paper presents observations made on hip luxation in cats in general practice over a four‐year period. Attention is drawn to some previous reports of this common injury, and discusses the use of the De Vita pin when reluxation follows a closed reduction. The possibility of sciatic nerve injury following this technique is mentione

摘要:
ABSTRACTThe length, circumference, height and weight of 63 (29 female, 34 male) unconditioned mongrel dogs were measured. Means and standard deviations of the mean were calculated for each parameter for males, females, and combined totals. Combined totals were used to plot regression lines for length: weight, circumference: weight, and height: weight. Correlation coefficients of the lines of regression were 0.76, 0.85, and 0.41 for length: weight, circumference: weight, and height: weight, respectively, and standard errors for the three parameters were 3.20, 2.25, and 3.95, respectively. Circumference, the best single parameter for predicting weight, was selected and used to compile a table of normalized weights expressed in kilograms and pounds for convenient comparison.

摘要:
ABSTRACTThis paper presents the rationale for the use of antimicrobial therapy in the dog according to the body system or organ in which an infection is located. In so doing, it correlates information on the abilities possessed by the different groups of antimicrobial drugs to penetrate sites of infection in particular body tissues. It also presents information on the clinical results reported after the use of particular antimicrobial drugs in the treatment of infections involving specific body systems and organs. The information provided on dose rates is qualitative rather than quantitative.

摘要:
ABSTRACTAn aged cat was presented with a history of chronic relapsing weakness and depression. Profound hypokalaemia was detected in association with increased serum aldosterone levels and marginally subnormal plasma renin activity. A diagnosis of primary aldosteronism (Conn's syndrome) was made and the cat was successfully treated for 2 ½ months with spironolactone. When renal failure developed, the cat was destroyed and at autopsy a large adrenal cortical adenocarcinoma was found

摘要:
ABSTRACTSemen samples were collected from mature Beagle dogs, using digital manipulation, at differing frequencies. Ejaculation once a day for five days did not affect libido or seminal characteristics. Ejaculation twice a day for five days reduced libido and sperm output. Ejaculation three times a day dramatically reduced libido and semen quality, and it was only possible to collect six or seven ejaculates. In a separate study semen quality was not altered after 6 weeks sexual rest.
