Abstract——A case of hyperostosis in a cat is reported. Evidence indicated that the condition was caused by excessive vitamin A intake, in a predominantly liver diet, over a period of 18 months. The diagnosis, made on the case history and physical findings at examination was confirmed by radiological findings and clinical chemistry. It was further substantiated by autopsy findings. To re‐affirm the clinical findings, photographs of macerated hyperostotic bones are presented. The case is discussed and its features are compared with feline oesteodystrophia fibrosa (osteogenesis irnperfecta, juvenile osteoporosis).Résumé——On rapporte un cas d'hyperostose chez le chat. Les faits montrent que la maladie est provoqute par une absorption excessive de vitamine A au cours d'un régime dans lequel prédomine le foie pendant une période de 18 mois.Le diagnostic établi d'après les commémoratifs et les observations cliniques est confirmé par les observations radiologiques et les analyses biochimiques. Il est aussi renforcé par la suite au cours de l'examen nécropsique. Pour illustrer les constatations cliniques des photographies d'os hypero‐stotiques sont présentées. Le cas est discuté et les faits sont comparés avec l'ostéodystrophie fibreuse du chat (ostéogénèse imparfaite, ostéoporose juvénile).Zusammenfassung——Es wird über einen Fall von Hyperostose bei einer Katze berichtet. Der Befund liess darauf schliessen, dass der Zustand durch übermässige Vitamin‐A‐Aufnahme mit einem übenviegend aus Leber bestehenden Futter während eines Zeitraums von 18 Monaten verursacht worden war. Die Diagnose auf Grund der Krankengeschichte und der körperlichen.Untersuchungsergebnisse wurde durch radiologische und klinisch‐chemische Untersuchung bestätigt. Weiter wurde sie durch den Sektionsbefund verifiziert. Als Belege werden die klinischen Befunde und Photographien der mazerierten hyperostotischen Knochen wiedergegeben. Abstract——A retrospective pathologic study of sixteen cats with toxoplasmosis revealed that the most consistent lesion was an interstitial pneumonia accompanied by fibrinous exudate, focal necrosis, proliferation of alveolar lining cells and the presence of large numbers of alveolar macro‐phages. The liver and central nervous system were the next two most commonly affected organs. Lesions in the former were characterized by disseminated focal necrosis, while those in the brain most often consisted of areas of focal gliosis and perivascular cuffing. These pathologic changes are similar to those which have been reported in canine, bovine, ovine and porcine toxoplasmosis, and the pathogenesis is considered to be similar to that in the dog.Résumé——Une étude anatomopathologique rétrospective de 16 chats atteints de toxoplasmose révèle que la lésion la plus importante était représentée par me pneumonie intentitielle accompagnée d'un exsudat fibrineux, de foyers de nécrose, d'une prolifération des cellules alvéolaires et par la préence d'un grand nombre de macrophages dans les alvéoles. Le foie et le système nerveux central sont la dew autres organa le plus souvent atteints. Les lésions hépatiques sont caractérisées par une nécrose focale disséminée tandis que celles du cerveau consistent la plupart du temps en foyers de gliose focale et en machons périvasculaires. Ces modifications pathologiques sont identiques à celles qui ont été rapportées dans la toxoplasmose canine, bovine, ovine et porcine et on considère que la pathogènie est identique à celle du chien.Zusammenfassung——Eine retrospektive pathologische Studie über 16 Fälle von Toxoplasmose bei Katzen ergab, dass die konsistenteste Läsion eine intentitielle Pneumonie war, begleitet von fibrinösem Exsudat, fokaler Nekrose, Proliferation der inneren Alveolenzellen und der Anwesenheit einer grossen Zahl alveolarer Makrophagen. Die Leber und das Zentralnervensystem waren die beiden am nächstäufigen angegriffenen Organe. Läsionen der ersteren waren durch disseminierte fokale Nekrosen gekennzeichnet, während die des Gehirns am häfigsten aus Gebieten fokaler Gliosis und perivasculärer zylindrischer Neubildungen bestanden. Abstract——Twelve cases of Unilateral Pyometra are described with particular reference to the pathology of the genital tract.As a result of this study, it was concluded that the disparity in size between the two uterine horns was due to interference with drainage from one horn. Abstract——A case of Lactational Tetany in a 3‐year‐old cat is described in detail. The case followed the addition of an orphan kitten to the litter of five 3‐week‐old kittens already suckling. Rapid recovery followed injection of a calcium solution, but a relapse occurred after ten days. The cat again responded well to treatment and remained well. A review of recorded cases is presented briefly and a note on the neurophysiology of tetany is included.Résumé——On décrit en détail un cas de Tétanie de Lactation chez un chat de 3 ans. Le cas s'est produit à la suite de l'introduction d'un chaton orphelin dam une portée de cinq chatons âgés de 3 semaines et encore à la mamelle.Une guérison rapide a fait suite à l'injection d'une solution de calcium mais une rechute se produisit 10 jours après. A nouveau le chat fut sensible au traitement et se remit. On présente brièvement une revue des cas déjàn rapportés dans la littérature. Dieser Fall folgte der Aufnahme eines venvaisten Jungtiers in einen Wurf von fünf 3 Wochen alten gesäugten Jungen. Nach Injektion einer Calciumlösung trat rasch Besserung ein, aber nach 10 Tagen kam es zu einem Rückfall. Abstract——The establishment of the first Specific Pathogen Free cat (Felis catus L) colony in the U.K. is described. The application of anaesthesia and the techniques employed in hysterectomy are described, as also is a method of hand‐rearing kittens under conventional and SPF conditions. The formulae of diets used in rearing kittens from birth to maturity, and some details of body weight, are given. Cats free from endemic pathogens were produced with considerably improved breeding performance. It is likely that these results will have a marked effect on future methods of cat breeding.Résumé——On décrit l'établissement de la première colonie de chats (Felis catus L) exempts d'organismes pathogènes spécifiques au Royaume‐Uni. Des techniques d'anesthésie et d'hystérec‐tomie qui ont été employées, aussi bien que la méthode d'élevage des chatons dans des conditions traditionnelles et S.P.F. sont décrites. La composition du régime utilist pour élever les chatons de la naissance a l'âge adultes et quelques détails sur la croissance sont donnés. Les chats exempts de germes pathogènes endémiques ont été produits ave une amélioration considérable des résultats de l'élevage. On peut s'attendre à une répercussion ultérieure importante de ces résultats sur les futures méthodes d'élevage du chat.Zusammenfassung——Die Einrichtung der ersten spezifisch pathogenfreien Katzenkolonie (Felis catus L.) in Grossbritannien wird beschrieben. Ausserdem werden die Anwendung der Anästhesie und die bei der Hysterectomie gebrauchten Techniken sowie eine Methode der künstlichen Aufzucht des Wurfs unter herkömmlichen und spezifisch pathogenfreien Bedingungen beschrieben. Die Futtenusammensetzung bei der Aufzucht des Wurfs bis zur Reife und einige Einzelheiten übu das Körpergewicht werden angegeben.
