Abstract—The effect of combined fluid treatment (dextran, bicarbonate, physiological sodiumchloride and aminoacid‐glucose solutions) on the lactate‐pyruvate metabolism was studied in seven dogs. Tissue damage including fractures of the femur and tibia with soft tissue injuries were produced. The common iliac veins and the abdominal aorta were cannulated. Blood samples were drawn through each catheter prior to trauma in order to obtain basal values and at 1/2, 1, 3, 12 and 24 hours after trauma. The following parameters were determined; pH, standard bicarbonate, PCO2, base excess, paO2, lactate, pyruvate, haemoglobin and haematocrit. A favourable effect of fluid treatment on the lactate‐pyruvate ratio and the blood gas values was observed.Résumé—On a étudié sur 7 chiens I'effet du traitement par un ensemble de solutés (dextran, bicarbonate, chlorure de sodium physiologique, solutions d'amino‐acide et de glucose) sur le méta‐bolisme lactate pyruvate. Des léions tissulaires comprenant des fractures du fémur et du tibia avec atteinte des tissus mous ont été produites. La veines iliaques communes et l'aorte abdominale ont été catheterisées. Des échantillons de sang ont été prélevés au niveau de chaque cathetère avant le traumatisme afin d'obtenir des valeurs de base et à 1/2, 1, 3, 12 et 24 heures après le traumatisme. On a determiné les paramètres suivants; pH, concentration en bicarbonate, pCO2, réerve alcalinc pO2, lactate pyruvate, hémoglobine et hématocrite. II a été observé une action favorable du traite‐ment par un ensemble de solutés sur le rapport lactate pyruvate et sur les valeurs des gaz sanguins.Zusammenfassung—Der Einffuss einer kombinierten Flüssigkeitsbehandlung (Dextran, Bicarb‐onat, physiologische Kochsalzlösung und Aminosäure‐Glucose‐Lösung) ad den Lactat‐Pyxuvat‐Stoffwechsel wurde an sieben Hunden untersucht. Gewebeschädigungen einschliesslich Femur‐und Tibiafrakturen mit Weichteilverletzungen wurden erzeugt. In die Vena iliaca communis und die Aorta abdominalis wurden KanuIen eingefuhrt. Vor dem Trauma wurden Blutproben durch jedes Katheter entnommen, um Ausgangswerte und Werte 1/2, I, 3, 12 und 24 Stunden nach dem Trauma zu erhalten. Abstract—A technique and apparatus for the electrophoretic separation and staining of lactate dehydrogenase isoenzymes in canine sera is described. The technique is a modification of the agar gel electrophoretic method of Wieme (1959) and is relatively simple, reproducible and inexpensive, allowing visual and densi tometric evaluation of the relative quantities of each enzyme fraction.Cellulose acetate and five different types of commercially available agar were examined for their suitability as a support medium for LDH isoenzyme separation using canine sera.Risumé—On décrit une technique et un appareil pour la séparation électrophorttique et la coloration des enzymes du groupe de la deshydrogénase lactique dans le sérum de chien. La technique at une modification de la méthode électrophorétique en gel d'agar de Wieme (1959) et elle est relativement simple, fidéle et peu couteuse, et elle permet une évaluation visuelle et densimétrique des quantités relatives de chaque fraction enzymatique.Les qualités de l'acétate de cellulose et de 5 types différents d'agar à notre disposition dam le commerce ont été examiné en temps que milieu support pour la séparation des enzymes du groupe lacto‐deshydrogénase du sérum de chien.Zusammenfassuug—Eine Methode und die Apparatur für die elektrophoretische Trennung und Färbung von Lactatdehydrogenaseioenzymen in Hundeseren werden beschrieben. Abstract—A nephroblastoma of the right kidney was observed in a young male cat. The affected kidney and a portion of the vena cava was surgically removed. After failure to establish a patent caval‐portal shunt, it was found that the vertebral vein system functioned as a bypass for caval blood flow. Metastatic tumor which became apparent in the lungs and peritoneum five and eight months after ablation of the primary tumor was removed by excision biopsy.Résumé—Un néphoroblastome du rein droit a été observé chez un jeune chat mâle. Le rein malade et une partie de la vena cava ont été enlevé chirurgicalement. Après un échec pour établir une anastomose caval‐portal pérméable, on a trouvé que le système veineux vertébral fonctionnait comme un court‐circuit pour le sang de la veine cave. Une tumeur métastatique apparue dans les poumons et le péritoine 5 et 8 mois après l'ablation de la tumeur a été enlevée par une biopsie d'exérèse.Zusammenfassung—Ein Nephroblastom der rechten Niere wurde bei einem jungen Kater fest‐gestellt. Die befallene Niere und ein Teil der Vena cava wurden chirurgisch entfernt. SUMMARYThe effect of estradiol, testosterone, cortisone acetate, somatotropin, thyro‐tropin and parathyroid hormone on the 2nd lumbar intervertebral disc in 18 growing dogs of non‐chondrodystropic breeds was investigated. Thirteen dogs aged one week to ten months were used as controls. Five of these were of the same litters as the hormone treated dogs. The results were estimated histologically and histochemically. Changes in the annulus fibrosus were observed especially in the groups treated with estradiol, testosterone, thyrotropin and to a lesser extent in the groups treated with somatotropin and cortisone acetate. Especially with the larger doses, the metachromasia of the intercellular substance increased, the structure became looser, fragmentation and homogenization occur

Abstract—A 3–year‐old castrated male blue point Siamese cat suffering from severe constipation as a result of narrowing of the pelvic canal from an old fracture, was treated successfully by removal of the ventral portion of the pubis and ischium, and placement of a metal insert.Narrowing of the pelvic canal following certain fractures causes numerous complications, among which is the inability to pass normal sized stools. This results in the accumulation of massive amounts of feces in the colon, with straining, pain, and discomfort. The animal remains hunched up, repeatedly tries to defecate and passes only small amounts of mucous and soft stool. Alleviation is obtained by special diet, mineral oil, milk of magnesia, and medications to soften the stool. Often the only effective palliative treatment is repeated enemas given under a short acting anesthesia. A colotomy may be required. The condition can be relieved surgically.Résume—LJn chat siamois à extrémités bleues, castré, âgé de 3 ans atteint d'une grave constipation comme réultat du rétrécissement du canal pelvien après une fracture ancienne, a été traité avec succès par le déplacement de la partie ventrale du pubis et de I'ischium et la mise en place d'une prothèse métallique.Le rétrécissement du canal pelvien après certaines fractures entraine de nombreuses complications parmi lesquelles il faut compter l'impossibilité de laisser passer des selles de taille normale. Ceci permet l'accumulation de quantités importantes de fécès dam le colon, ce qui entraine des efforts de l'animal et des sensations de douleur et d'inconfort. L'animal reste le dos vowst, fait des essais répétés pour déféquer et rejette seulement de petites quantités de mucus et de selles desséchées. L'allongement de la douleur est obtenue par un régime spécial à base d'huile minérale, de lait de magnéie et de médicaments pour ramollir les selles. Souvent, le seul traitement palliatif est constitué par des lavements répétés donnes sous anesthésie de courte durée. Une colotémie peut êre nécessaire. Cette affection peut être guérie chirurgicalement.Zusammenfassung—Ein dreijähriger kastrierter Blue‐Point‐Siamkater litt an starker Konsti‐pation infolge einer Verengung des Beckenkanals durch eine alte Fraktur und wurde erfolgreich durch Ischiopubotomie und Anbringung einer Metallbrücke behandelt.Die Verengung des Beckenkanals nach bestimmten Frakturen verursacht zahlreiche Kompli‐kationen, zu denen die Undurchlässigkeit für normaldimensionierten Kot gehört. Dies hat die Ansammlung grosser Mengen von Faeces im Colon mit Dehnungen, Schmerzen und Unbehagen zur Folge. Das Tier hält sich zusammengekrümmt und versucht wiederholt, sich zu erleichtern, gibt aber nur kleine Mengen eines schleimigen und weichen Kots von sich. Eine Linderung lässt sich mit besonderer Ernährung, Paraffinöl, Magnesia und koterweichenden Medikamenten erzielen. Oft ist die einzig wirksame lindernde Behandlung die wiederholte Verabreichung von Einläufen unter kurzpirkender Narkose. Ein
