ABSTRACTNine cases of gastric dilation and torsion in dogs were treated by decompressing the stomach by gastrostomy performed under local analgesia. The technique involved a paracostal incision to expose the stomach wall which was then sutured to the skin. Incision through the stomach wall allowed drainage of gastric contents. Laparotomy to correct the gastric torsion was delayed until shock had been treated and the dogs had been stabilized.Seven of the nine cases survived the acute episode which compared favourably with results of treatment by immediate laparotomy to decompress the stomach and correct the torsion.Résumé.Neuf cas de dilation et de torsion gastriques chez de jeunes chiens ont été traités en décomprimant Festomac par gastrostomie faite sous analgésie locale. La technique a compris une incision paracostale pour exposer la paroi de l'estomac que l'on a alors suturée à la peau. L'incision à travers la paroi de l'estomac a permis que le contenu gastrique soit drainé. Un certain délai pour faire une laparotomie en vue de corriger la torsion gastrique a été observé, jusqu'à ce que le choc ait été traité et que les chiens aient été stabilisés. Sept des neufs cas ont survécu favorablement à l'épisode aigu, grâce aux résultats de traitement par une laparotomie immédiate pour décom‐primer l'estomac et corriger la torsion.Zusammenfassung.Neun Fälle von Magenerweiterung und Torsion wurden in jungen Hunden behandelt, in dem man der Magen durch Gastrostomie entlastete, die unter Lokalanalgesie ausgeführt wurde. Die Technik bestand in einem paracostalem Einschnitt um die Magenwand freizulegen, die dann an die Haut genäht wurde. Ein Einschnitt durch die Magenwand ermöglichte Entleerung des Mageninhalts. Laparotomie, um die Torsion zu korrigieren, wurde verzögert, bis die Hunde für Schock behandelt und ausgeglichener waren. ABSTRACTDelmadinone acetate (DMA)† was tested by oral or parenteral administration to forty female and ten male dogs, and to twenty female and ten male cats for the control of heat and ovulation, and suppression of undesirable sexual and social behaviour. The indications, particulars of medication and the results obtained are shown in the table. The mode of action on the hypothalamus, pituitary and target organs is discussed.Over a thirty‐six month trial period DMA proved to be a safe and efficacious drug for the control of sexual and related social functions in female and male pet animals. There were indications that even lower dosages than those employed may prove to be equally effective.Résumé.De l'acétate de delmadinone a été soumis à des tests, par administration buccale ou parentérale, sur quarante chiens femelles et dix chiens mâles et sur vingts chats femelles et dix chats mâles, pour le contrôle du rut et de l'ovulation et pour la suppression de comportement indésirable, sexuel et social. Les indications, les détails de médication et les résultats obtenus sont indiqués à la table. On discute du mode d'action sur Phypothalamus, l'hypophyse et les organes‐cibles.Au cours d'une période d'essai de 36 mois, l'acétate de delmadinone s'est révelé une drogue éfficace, sans danger, pour le contrôle des fonctions sexuelles et sociales apparentées, chez les animaux familiers femelles et mâles. Il y avaient certaines indications, que même des doses plus faibles que celles utilisées peuvent se montrer également éffectives.Zusammenfassung.Delmadinonazetat (DMA) wurde durch orale oder parenterale Vera‐breichung an vierzig weibliche und zehn männliche Hiade und an zwanzig weibliche und zehn männliche Katzen zur Kontrolle der Hitze und Ovulation, und Suppression von unerwünschtem sexuellem und sozialem Verhalten, gegeben. Die Indikationen, Eigenheiten von Medikation und die erlangten Ergebnisse sind in der Tabelle verzeichnet. Die Art der Wirkung auf den Hypo‐thalamus, die Hypophyse und die Erfolgsorgane ist erört.Über eine 36 monatige Versuchsperiode, DMA bewies sich als ein sicheres und wirksames Medikament zur Kontrolle von sexuellen und verbundenen sozialen Funktionen in weiblichen und männlichen Haustieren. ABSTRACTBone‐metastasizing squamous‐cell carcinoma of a 6‐year‐old female Bedlington terrier is reported. The dog was operated on for a squamous‐cell carcinoma in the axillary region. Four weeks after operation the dog developed signs of anaemia. It also became weak and showed neurological signs. Radiographs revealed areas of rarefaction in two vertebrae and densities in the lungs suggesting tumour metastases. The animal was destroyed and metastases were found in the axillary and internal iliac lymph nodes, the lungs, the first thoracic vertebra and the third lumbar vertebra. The tumour mass in the thoracic vertebra protruded into the spinal canal and compressed the spinal cord. The tumour cells in the primary tumour were of anaplastic type.Résumé.Un carcinome squamo‐cellulaire, métastasiant les os est rapporté chez un Bedlington terrier femelle de six ans. On a opéré le chien d'un carcinome squamo‐cellulaire dans la région axillaire. Quatre semaines après l'opération le chien a développé des signes d'anémie. Il s'est aussi affaibli et a montré des signes neurologiques. Des radiographies ont révélé des surfaces de raréfaction dans deux vertèbres et les densités dans les poumons ont suggéré des métastases de tumeur. L'animal a été detruit et on a trouvé des métastases dans les nœuds lymphatiques, iliaques internes et axillaires, les poumons, la première vertèbre thoracique et la troisième vertèbre lombaire. L'excroissance dans la vertèbre thoracique a fait saillie dans le canal vertébral et a comprimé la moelle épinière. Les cellules de la tumeur dans la tumeur primaire étaient de type anaplastique.Zusammenfassung:Von einem Knochen‐metastasierenden schuppenzelligem Karzinom in einem 6 Jahre alten weiblichen Bedlington‐Terrier wurde berichtet. Man operierte den Hund an einem schuppenzelligen Karzinom in der Achsellymphdrüsengegend. Vier Wochen nach der Operation entwickelte der Hund Anzeichen von Anämie. Auch wurde er schwach und zeigte neurologische Symptome. Röntgenaufnahmen zeigten Gebiete von Rarefactio in zwei Rücken‐wirbeln und Verdichtungen in der Lunge liessen auf Tochtergeschwulste deuten. Man tötete den Hund und Metastasen fanden sich in den Achsellymphdrüsen und den innerlichen Darmbein‐lymphknoten, der Lunge, dem ersten Brustwirbel und dem dritten Lendenwirbel. Der Massen‐tumor in dem Brustwirbel ragte bis in den Kanal der Wirbelsäule hinein und drückte auf denWirbelsäulenst

ABSTRACTTwo cases of canine primary adrenal insufficiency were diagnosed clinically by correlating the nonspecific signs of vomiting, diarrhoea, anorexia and muscular weakness with blood electrolyte imbalances of hypo‐natraemia and hyperkalaemia. Clinical improvement in both dogs after steroid administration further supported this diagnosis. The clinical signs in both dogs were associated with primary destruction of adrenocortical tissue.Résumé.On a déterminé par diagnostic clinique deux cas d'insuffisance primaire adrénale chez le chien, en corrélationnant les signes non‐spécifiques de vomissement, diarrhée, anorexie et faiblesse musculaire avec un déséquilibre d'électrolytes du sang d'hyponatrémie et d'hyperkaliémie. L'amélioration clinique chez les deux chiens, après l'administration de stéroïdes a, de plus, donné appui à ce diagnostic. Les signes cliniques chez les deux chiens ont été associés avec une destruction primaire des tissus adrénocorticaux.Zusammenfassung.Zwei Fälle von primärer adrenaler Insuffizienz waren klinisch diagno‐stiziert in dem man die unspezifischen Anzeichen von Erbrechen, Durchfall, Anorexie und Muskel‐schwäche korrelierte mit Blutelektrolyte Ungleichheiten von Hyponaträmie und Hyperkaliäraie.
