Abstract—The behavioural effect of bilateral amygdaloid lesions was studied in seven nervous male dogs. The material could be divided into three groups:A. Extremely nervous animals with no, or only minor tendencies of aggressionB. Animals with fits of hysteric aggression, andC. (C) One vicious dog.The clinical effect was good in group A, doubtful in group B, and none in group C.Sammandrag—Effekten av bilaterala skador inom amygdaleåområdet på beteendemönstret hos 7 nervösa hanhundar har studerats. Abstract—The present situation with mycobacterioses in domestic carnivores (dogs and cats) is reviewed with particular reference the current epidemiology of tuberculosis in small animals in France. Animal infections with atypical mycobacteria are dealt with as well as particular emphasis being placed on the creation of preventive health programmes and the compulsory notification of cases.Résumé—L'étude de la présence des mycobactérioses chez les carnivores domestiques (chiens et chats) est faite, en attachant une importance toute particulière à I'épidémiologie actuelle de la tuberculose chez les petits animaux en France.Les infections animales comportant des mycobactéries typiques y sont traitées, et la création de programmes sanitaires préventifs ainsi que I'établissement d'une loi obligeant ä mentionner des cas similaires y sont tout particuliërement soulignés.Zusammenfassung—Die gegenwärtige Sachlage mit Mykobakteriosen in fleischfressenden Haustieren (Hunde und Katzen) wird unter besonderer Berücksichtigung der jetzigen Epidemiologic von Tuberkulose kleiner Tiere in Frankreich untersucht. Abstract—The archetypical reaction of canine skin to the topical application ofCandida albicanswas an acutely inflamed, oozing, suppurative plaque. This self‐healing lesion did not vary with the sites tested, concentration of the organism employed or with repeated infections. The reaction was identical to that of a contact dermatitis of the irritation type, experimentally induced in the dog to a cationic detergent. When compared to the spontaneous dermatoses in the dog, it resembled the lesion of pyo‐traumatic dermatitis (hotspot).The striking histopathologic features of the monilial lesion were sub‐corneal abscesses and micro‐abscessation in the Malpighian and parakeratotic layers. No microorganisms were demonstrable in the abscesses in section stained with Gram's stain or by the periodic acid Schiff reaction.Candida albicanswas readily demonstrable in active lesions by cultural methods or impression smears.Until more is known about the spontaneous monilial lesion in the dog, it is suggested that discrete, intensely erythematous plaques or patches with oozing, macerated, suppurative surface and with localization at muco‐cutaneous junctions or relatively hairless areas should be suspect for moniliasis.Résumé—La réaction archétype de la peau canine à l'application locale deCandida albicansa provoqué une plaque très enflammée, suppurative et suintante. Cette lésion auto‐cicatrisante ne variait pas d'une région testéeà l'autre et n'était pas affectée par la concentration de 1'organisme employé ou par des infections répétées. La réaction était identique à celle d'une dermatite de contact, du type irritant, expérimentalement induite chez le chien, devant un détersif cationique. Comparée aux dermatoses spontanées chez le chien, elle ressemble à la léion du type dermatite pyo‐traumatique (point d'inflammation).Les caractéeristiques frappantes histopathologiques de la lésion moniliale consistaient en abcés sub‐cornéens et en une micro‐abcession dans les couches de Malpighi et parakeratotiques. Aucun micro‐organisme n'a pu être retracé dans les abcès sur la section recouverte de teinture de Gram ou selon la réaction périodique à l'acide Schiff. LeCandida albicansfut facilement retracé dans les lésions actives, par les méthodes de culture ou frottis à impression.Jusqu'à ce que l'on puisse avoir plus de connaissances sur les lésions spontanées moniliales chez le chien, l'on suggère de soupçonner une Moniliasis lorsque l'on se trouvera devant des plaques ou tâches discrètes, erythèmes avec surfaces suintantes, suppuratives et macërées, et avec une certaine localisation au niveau des jonctions muco‐cutanées ou dans les zones plus ou moins sans poil.Zusammenfassung—Die urspriingliche Reaktion des Hundefelles zu der aktuellen Anwendung vonCandida albicanswar eine scharf entzündete, fliessende, eiternde Stelle. Diese selbstheilende Wunde veränderte sich nicht in den geprüften Stellen, in der Konzentration des verwendeten Organismus oder bei wiederholten Ansteckungen. Die Reaktion war identisch mit der von Berührungs‐Hautentzündung der Reizungsart, versuchsweise bewirkt in einem Hund bei einem kationischen Reinigungsmittel. Verglichen mit der selbsttätigen Hautehtzündung in dem Hund, war sie der Wunde von Ausfluss‐verursachter Hautentzündung (Hitzestelle) ähnlich.Die auffallenden Histopathologischen Merkmale der Monolialen Wunde waren sub‐horn häutliche Geschwüre und mikro‐Geschwürbildungen in den Malpighian und Parakeratotischen Schichten. Kein Mikroorganismus war beweisbar in den Geschwüren, an jenen Abschnitten, welche mit Gram's Flecken oder mit der periodischen Säure‐SchifT Reaktion befleckt waren.Candida albicanswar leicht beweisbar in aktiven Wunden bei Zuchtmethoden oder Abdrucksschmieren.Bis dahin, wenn etwas mehr über die selbsttätigen Monilialen Wunden bekannt ist, wird vorgesch‐lagen, das getrennte, intensive erythematische Stellen oder Flecken mit fliessenden, abzehrenden, eitrigen Oberflächen und mit begrenzten schle

AT THE recent highly successful 2‐day symposium on “Aspects of Comparative Ophthalmology” held in June 1965 at the Nuffield Institute of Comparative Medicine, Zoological Society of London, London and organized by the B.S.A.V.A. a series of twenty‐two papers were presented. The meetings were held under the Chairmanship of Sir Benjamin Rycroft and Professors F. R. Bell, C. Formston and E. S. Perkins. The Chairman of the Organizing Committee was O.
