ABSTRACTThe spinal cords of eight dogs with ‘the ascending syndrome’ were examined. There was extensive necrosis with ischaemic changes in the neurones. Many intramedullary and meningeal blood vessels were necrotic and there were perivascular deposits of fibrin. Some vessels were markedly congested and others contained thrombi. The pathogenesis of the condition is discussed, particularly in relation to factors causing a failure of collateral circulation.Résumé.Les moelles épinières de huit chiens avec “l'ascendant syndrome” étaient examinées. II y avait la nécrose étendue avec des changements ischémiques dans les neurones. Beaucoup de vaisseaux sanguins intramédullaires et de méningite etaient nécrotiques et il y avait des dépôts perivasculaies de fibrine. Quelques vaisseaux étaient congestionnés d'une façon marquée et d'autres contenaient les thrombi. La pathogénie de la condition est discutée particulièrement à l‘égard de facteurs qui sont cause de manque de circulation collatérale.Zusammenfassung.Man hat die Rückenmarke von acht Hundc mit “dem aufsteigenden Synchdrom” geprüft. Es gab ausgedehnte Nekrose mit Ischämieveränderung in den Neuronen. Viele intraraedüllaren Blutgefässe und Blutgefässe van Hirnhäute waren nekrotisch und es gab Perigefässablagerungen von Fibrin. ABSTRACTNinety‐nine dogs were treated by hemilaminectomy for thoracolumbar intervertebral disc protrusion. Most animals were 4–7 years old and chondrodystrophoid. The incidence of protrusion was higher at the thoracolumbar junction. Animals with paresis, pain, or pain and paresis had a greater recovery rate than dogs with paralysis.Résumé.La protrusion du disque intervertébral thoracolombaire a été traitée par hémi‐laminectomie chez 99 chiens, la plupart âgés de 4 à 7 ans et atteints de chondrodystrophie. Les protrusions étaient plus fréquentes à la jonction thoraco‐lombaire. Les animaux qui manifes‐taient de la parésie ou de la douleur, ou de la parésie et de la douleur, se rétablissaient plus vite et mieux que les animaux paralysés.Zusammenfassung.Neunundneunzig Hunde wurden mit Hemilaminektomie bei thoraco‐lumbaren Zwischenwirbelscheibenvorfall behandelt. ABSTRACTAn account is given of the use to which bone autografts may be put in the repair of non‐union fractures and in the treatment of severe carpal injuries in dogs. The methods of obtaining grafts of rib, iliac crest and tibial cortex are described, as are also the techniques for their employment at fracture sites and for carpal fusion. Four case protocols are provided for each category of procedure. Important theoretical considerations are discussed regarding the fate of grafted bone, the value of a bone bank and the use of bone homografts and bone heterografts.Résumé.L'auteur donne un aperçu des possibilités de recours aux autogreffes osseuses pour la réparation des fractures avec désunion et dans le traitement des lésions carpiennes graves chez le chien. II dé'crit les méthodes d'obtention de greffons des côtes, de la crête iliaque et du cortex tibial, ainsi que les techniques de mise en place au site des fractures et en vue du fusionne‐ment carpien. Chaque precédé est illustré par quatre comptes rendus de cas. Le sort des os greffés l'importance d'une banque des os et l'emploi d'homogreffes et d'hétérogreffes font l'objet d'importantes considérations théoriques.Zusammenfassung.Es wird ein Bericht über die Anwendung von Knochenautoplastik bei der Behandlung nichtheilender Frakturen und schwerer Carpaliaverletzungen bei Hunden gegben. Die Methoden zur Gewinnung von Pfropfungsmaterial von Rippen, Hüftbeinkamm und Tibialcortex werden beschrieben, ebenso die Methoden der Verwendung an Bruchstellen und zur Heilung von Carpaliaverletzungen. Für jede Art des Verfahrens werden vier Fallproto‐kolle wiedergegeben. ABSTRACTThe results of a co‐ordinated multicentred clinical evaluation of a new steroid anaesthetic for cats, CT 1341, are presented. Forty‐six practising veterinary surgeons were involved. Administration by the intravenous, intramuscular and combined intramuscular‐intravenous routes was tried. It was concluded that CT 1341 is a safe anaesthetic in cat practice when given intravenously. When employed by the intramuscular route it induced deep sedation and in some cases anaesthesia, depending on the dosage
