ABSTRACTIn fourteen dogs with osteochondritis dissecans of the stifle joint the lesion was found in the articular cartilage of the medial condyle of the femur in six and the lateral condyle in eight. Both stifle joints were affected in eight dogs and in two of these, both Wolfhounds, the shoulder joints were also affected. Ten dogs were treated surgically and three by conservative means. The results of treatment are discussed.

ABSTRACTThe case details of ten dogs with osteochondritis dissecans of the medial condyle of the humerus and seven dogs with ununited coronoid process are presented. Seventeen dogs were treated surgically and the medial approach to the elbow is described.

ABSTRACTA case of otitis media and interna in a domestic cat is described in which granulation tissue extended into the external ear canal. An unusual histological feature was the presence of mucous glands within the granulation tissue. The possible origin of these glands and a differential diagnosis of this condition is discussed.

ABSTRACTA single haematological examination, which included plasma fibrinogen and total protein measurement, was performed on 191 cats when first presented with an owner‐suspected abnormality. Apart from anaemia and leucopenia in nine cases ofHaemobartonella felisinfection and five of panleucopenia, the results with a variety of other disorders were variable. Anaemia was present in a further thirty cats, of which only two showed evidence of remission. Plasma protein values were frequently elevated, an indication that dehydration is common in sick cats.In addition to changes in total and differential leucocyte counts, seventy‐three of the blood smears examined showed toxic changes, indicative of interference with neutrophil maturation. Most haemograms had one or more abnormal values. In conjunction with other observations and diagnostic aids, a single haematological examination at the time of a cat's presentation can provide valuable information on a disease proc

ABSTRACTThe paper reports a bronchial foreign body with unusual clinical signs in a chimpanzee. The illness lasted some months and was manifested by malaise, reduced appetite, loss in body weight and a spontaneous abortion. Routine auscultation and radiography could not be performed initially because of the size and disposition of the animal but chest radiography was later carried out under general anaesthesia and revealed a foreign body which was extracted through a bronchoscope from the right main bronchus. Methods of anaesthesia suitable for bronchoscopy are discussed but the Venturi technique using a jet air injector seems to be the method of choice.

ABSTRACTA case of juvenile onset myasthenia gravis is described in a Yorkshire Terrier x Jack Russell bitch in which there were serum autoantibodies to acetylcholine receptors and reduction in the muscle's content of acetylcholine receptors. Approximately 25% of the receptors remaining were complexed with antibody. After 8 months of treatment with the anticholinesterase pyridostigmin, the animal made a complete recovery and the serum level of antibody decreased. The condition of this dog in many respects resembled acquired myasthenia gravis of adult onset and is contrasted with the seven cases of congenital myasthenia gravis which we have studied in the Jack Russell Terrier. In the congenital form of myasthenia gravis, reduction of acetylcholine receptors in muscle is found without any demonstrable autoantibodies to acetylcholine receptors, either in serum or muscle.
