摘要:
ABSTRACTThe features of 13 dogs with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) are described. Canine SLE is a multisystemic disease characterized by autoimmunity and immune complex hypersensitivity. The presence of antinuclear antibody in the blood is an important diagnostic feature. All 13 cases had a non‐erosive symmetrical polyarthritis. Autoimmune haemolytic anaemia was seen in five cases, thrombocytopenia in three, skin lesions in four; neurological involvement in one; and gastrointestinal signs in one. Treatment was with cytotoxic drugs(cyclophosphamide initially) and prednisolon

摘要:
ABSTRACTA connective tissue disorder characterized by non‐erosive polyarthritis and polymyositis has been identified in six young adult dogs. The diagnosis was based on the clinical features of stiffness, joint swelling, joint pain, muscle atrophy, muscle pain and contracture and the presence of chronic active inflammation in biopsies of muscle and synovium. A diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus was excluded by the absence of circulating antinuclear antibody. Five of the six dogs were of the spaniel breeds. Treatment was with cyclophosphamide and prednisolone. Only two dogs made an apparent recover

摘要:
ABSTRACTThe features of 67 cases of canine idiopathic polyarthritis are described. Idiopathic polyarthritis includes cases of non‐infective polysynovitis which cannot be classified into more defined groups. It most often affects young adult dogs, and pyrexia, inappetence and lethargy are exhibited as well as lameness. Radiography usually shows soft tissue changes. Four types are identified according to certain associations; Type I (uncomplicated), Type II (infection elsewhere in the body), Type III (gastro‐intestinal disease) and Type IV (neoplastic disease elsewhere in the body). Steroids and/or cytotoxic drugs are used for treatm

摘要:
ABSTRACTThe literature was reviewed and reference made to a retrospective study of cases of Horner's syndrome seen at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies. It was concluded that the cardinal diagnostic sign of Horner's syndrome is miosis. Ptosis, prolapse of the third eyelid and apparent enophthalmos are frequently presented but other signs of sympathetic deficit such as facial or aural vasodilatation are observed less consistently. The clinical diagnosis may be confirmed by pupillary response to cocaine.Horner's syndrome was frequently associated with trauma and less commonly with neoplasia. In a significant number of cases the cause was undetermined. Lesions of central neurons are reported infrequently while lesions of preganglionic and postganglionic neurons are described more often and appear to have a similar incidence. Preganglionic lesions most frequently involve the thoracic spinal cord and cervical sympathetic trunk while postganglionic lesions usually result from middle ear and retrobulbar disorders. The site of the lesion may be determined on the basis of clinical signs and pupillary response to phenyladrenalin or hydroxyamphetamine which both distinguish postganglionic lesions from preganglionic and central lesions.

摘要:
ABSTRACTEhlers‐Danlos syndrome (EDS) is an hereditary connective tissue disease in man in which the skin is easily torn. A similar condition has been described in dogs and other animals. This case report records a case in the United Kingdom in which the whole syndrome was exhibited: skin fragility, joint laxity and ocular signs of bilateral lens luxation, cataract and corneal oedema. It is the first report of ocular signs in EDS in the dog and joint laxity has been reported only rarel
