Abstract——Spondylosis deformans (vertebral osteophytosis) in the dog was studied radiographically in material from Bristol (England), Stockholm (Sweden), and Fort Collins (Colorado, U.S.A.). The incidence was dependent on age, sex, and breed with the lesion more common in older age, females and boxers. The pattern of distribution of the osteophytes was similar in all groups. The average size of the osteophytes was not dependent on its location but was similar throughout the vertebral column. The condition was present as often in dogs with clinical signs related to the spine as in those without.Résumé——La spondylose deformans (ostéophytose vertebrale) chez le chien a étéétudiée radio‐graphiquement avec un materiel de Bristol (Angleterre), Stockholm (Suéde) et Fort Collins (U.S.A.). L'incidence est indépendante de P'áge, du sexe et de la race avec des lésions plus communes chez les chiens d'âge avancé, les femelles et les boxers. Le motif de distribution des ostéophytes est similaire dans tous les groupes. La taille moyenne des ostéophytes ne dépend pas de son emplacement mais est similaire le long de la colonne vertebrale. La condition a été constatée aussi souvent chez les chiens ayant des signes cliniques reliés à l'épine dorsale que chez ceux n'en ayant pas.Zusammenfassung——Material aus Bristol (England), Stockholm (Schweden), und Fort Collins (Colorado, U.S.A.) betreffend spondylosis deformans (vertebraler Knochenauswuchs) bei Hunden wurde radiographisch untersucht. Die auftretenden Fälle hingen vom Alter, dem Geschlecht und der Rasse ab, wobei Verletzungen bei älteren Tieren, Weibchen und Boxern häufiger vorkamen. Bei alien Gruppen war das Verteilungsbild der Knochenauswüchse ähnlich. Die Durchschnittsgrösse der Knochenauswüchse hing nicht von ihrer örtlichen Lage ab, sondern war gleichartig entlang der gesamten Wirbelsäule. Dieser Zustand zeigte sich ebenso oft bei Hunden mit klinischen Anzeichen in Verbindung mit dem Rückgrat

Abstract——The kidneys of eighty‐two natural cases of infectious canine hepatitis (ICH) were examined histologically. Interstitial nephritis was found in twenty‐four of the eighty‐two cases (29.2 per cent). In eight of the twenty‐four nephritic kidneys (33.3 per cent) typical ICH inclusions were observed in epithelial cells within the interstitial lesions. It was suggested that, in view of those findings and by the fact that similar renal lesions have been produced experimentally, some cases of naturally‐occurring nephritis may in fact be due to ICH virus.Résumé——Les reins de quatre vingt deux cas naturels d'hépatitc canine infectueuse (ICH) ont été histologiquement examinés. Une nephrite interstitielle a été constatée chez vingt quatre des quatre vingt deux cas (29,2 pour cent). Chez huit des vingt quatre cas de reins nephrétiques (33,3 pour cent) des inclusions typiques ICH ont été observées dans les cellules épithéliennes avec des lésions inter‐stitielles. II a été suggéré que, vu ces décourvertes et par le fait que des lésions rénales simiJaires ont été produites expérimentalement, quelqucs cas de nephrite naturelles peuvent, en fait, provenir du‐virus ICH.Zusammenfassung——Es wurden dieNieren von zweiundachtzig natürlich aufgetretenen Fällen von. infektiöser Hundehepatitis (ICH) histologisch untersucht. Bei vierundzwanzig aus den zweiundachtzig Fällen fand man interstitielle Nierenentzündung (29,2 Prozent). Bei acht aus den vierundzwanzig: nephritischen Nieren (33,3 Prozent) beobachtete man in den Epithelzellen typische ICH Einbettungen innerhalb der interstitiellen Verletzungen. In Anbetracht dieser Befunde und der Tatsache, dass ähnliche Nierenverletzungen experimentell hervorgerufen wurden, äusserte man die Ansicht, dass. einige Fälle von natürlich auftretender Nierenentzündung

Himwich, Medical Research Associate IV, Galesburg State Research Hospital, Galesburg, Illinois.Abstract——This work, presented in three parts, gives a brief review of “the literature pertaining to EEG development in various animals, followed by a description of EEG techniques, methods of recording and potential artifacts. The postnatal development of the EEG in the dog is illustrated in detail. From birth to seven days, awake and activated sleep patterns predominate; after this age, slow wave quiet sleep develops and neonatal spindles, the most predominating activity in young pups, gradually disappears. Other EEG phenomena, such as sleep spindles, drowsy slow wave activity, drowsy synchronous activity, transitions from sleep to wakefulness, paroxysmal sleep activity and slow wave activity when vision is occluded are described. EEG activity associated with neonatal convulsions, undernutrition, painful stimulation and pathological behavioral arousal (due to sensory deprivation) are also mentioned.Résumé——Du présente, en trois parties, une brève révision de la litérature concernant les déVeloppe‐ments del'EEG chez divers animaux, suivie d'une description des technique de l'EEG, compte‐rendu des méthodes et produits artificiels potentiels. Le développement post natal de l'EEG chez le chien est illustré en détails. De la naissance jusqu'à 7 jours, des motifs de sommeil éveillés et actif prédomi‐nent; aprés cet âge, des vagues lentes de sommeil tranquille se développent, Pactivité prédominante chez le jeune choit, disparait graduellement. D'autres phénomènes EEG tels que fuseaux de sommeil, activité de vagues lentes et assoupies, activitée simultande assoupie, transition de l'itat de sommeil à celui d'éveil, activité paroxysmale de sommeil et activité de vagues lentes lorsque la vision est obstruée sont décrits. L'activité de l'EEG associée aux convulsions néonatales de sous‐alimentation, stimulation douloureuse et état d'éveil pathologique (däà une privation sensorielle) sont également mentionnés.Zusammenfassung——Diese Arbeit, in drei Teilen vorgetraben, gibt ein kurzer Überblick über das Schrifttum betreffend Elektroenzephalogramme (EEG) bei verschiedenen Tieren mit darauffolgender Beschreibung der EEG‐Methoden sowie der Aufzeichnungsmethoden und der möglichen Artefakten. Die nach der Geburt stattfindende Entwicklung der EEG bei Hunden wird im Einzelnen dargestellt. Von Geburt an bis 7 Tage nachher herrschen wache und aktivierte Schlafzustände vor; nach diesem Alter entwickelt sich langsam, wellenartig ruhiger Schlaf und neonatale spindelförmige Bewegung; die bei jungen Hunden überwiegend vorkommende Aktivität verschwindet allmählich. Es werden auch andere EEG‐Erscheinungen wie Schlafspindeln, schläfrige, langsam wellenartige Aktivität, schläfrige, synchrone Aktivität, Übergang vom Schlaf‐ zum Wachzustand, krampfartige Schlafak‐tivität und langsam wellenartige Aktivität bei geschlossener Sicht beschrieben. Weiters erwähnt wird auch EEG‐Tätigkeit im Zusammenhang mit neonatalen Zuckungen. Unterernährung,
