Prurigo pigmentosa is a rare dermatosis with unknown etiology. It is characterized clinically by severe pruritic red papules and reticulate pigmentation thought to be an entity occurring more commonly in Japan where nearly 200 cases have been reported [1]. Outside Japan, only 7 cases have been described [2–7]. In Taiwan, though geographically close to Japan, no single case of this peculiar disorder has been reported. We report a case of necrobiosis lipoidica located on the glans penis of a patient without diabetes mellitus. Both clinical and histologic features favor the diagnosis of necrobiosis lipoidica, even though the location is unusual. Treatment with pentoxifylline was effective. The differential diagnosis is discussed.

We report on a patient in whom prolonged therapy with etretinate was associated with the appearance of disseminated nodules, whose histopathologic study showed a sarcoid-like granuloma. Although the role of etretinate in the occurrence of this granulomatous reaction is not proven, we speculate on possible mechanisms of such a link.

A 21-year-old housewife with maturity onset type diabetes of young people developed scleredema diabeticorum, scleroderma-like skin thickness on forearms and dorsum of hands, digital sclerosis and cheiroarthropathy. She had diabetes mellitus since the age of 11 years. Her grandfather on the mother’s side, her mother and 3 of 5 her mother’s brothers and sisters have diabetes mellitus. Blood glucose was 295 mg/dl. We report 4 cases of a naevocellular naevus variant containing abundant amounts of mucinous matrix. The mucinous matrix was Alcian blue (pH 2.5) and Halle’s colloidal iron positive and mucicarmine and PAS negative. We report a 26-year-old housemaid whose partner was an intravenous drug abuser with undiagnosed pulmonary tuberculosis. The patient presented with a painless chin ulcer with an elevated irregular border and a firm, nontender submandibular adenopathy. The lesion had been present for 2 months and did not respond to antibiotic therapy. The tuberculin test was positive, and a biopsy and Löwenstein culture confirmed the diagnosis of cutaneous chancre. The patient was treated with rifampicin, isoniazid and pyrazinamide and, after 6 months of treatment, she developed scrofuloderma which had to be surgically removed. After 1 year of follow-up, the lesions had totally cleared

A 43-year-old man, affected with alopecia universalis and vitiligo since his childhood, developed erythrodermic pityriasis rubra pilaris followed then by lichen planus; chronic viral hepatitis C was diagnosed.
