The increase in gonorrhoea demands more thorough diagnostic measures. In 160 patients with urethritis and 60 female patients with various symptoms suggestive of gonorrhoea 3 different diagnostic methods (Gram staining, direct IF-test, cultural growth on Thayer-Martin medium) were compared. In the 160 male patients the 3 methods showed convergent results in 93%. The 10 cases yielding divergent results are discussed. In the 60 female patients the results were convergent in 86% from urethral smears, in 76% from cervical smears respectively. In 17 women gonorrhoea was diagnosed, 11 times with all 3 methods, 4 times with the culture and IF-test, twice with the IF-test alone. Comparing the results of the 3 methods, the IF-test has advantages both in use of time and equipment and has proved to be the most specific test in our experiments.

The sodium salt of fucidic acid, fucidin, an antibiotic, was given in a dosage of 250 mg t. i. d. to 20 patients with psoriasis vulgaris in a double-blind study over two periods of four weeks each. Five cases of dystrophic calcinosis cutis that developed following phlebitis are reported. Phlebitis, thought to be a cause of calcification, occurred in blood vessels that had been used for infusion of various drugs, minerals, and Ringer’ solution during and after surgery. The results of treatment of 36 cases of cutaneous leishmaniasis are discussed. While initial rapid clinical improvement was noted as early as 5 days, complete cure required as long as 14weeks in some cases.

21 patients with vitiligo were treated by local application of 0.2% betamethasone 17-valerate in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO, 43% in a cream base) during 4 months. Symmetric patches were treated only with DMSO in the cream base. The results were very satisfactory and demonstrate that local application of betamethasone 17-valerate can induce repigmentation of vitiligo patches.

Allergic contact dermatitis to virginiamycin is a common problem among users. In contrast, a detailed inquiry has revealed no case among employees of the virginiamycin producing factory. A maximization test with virginiamycin has been performed on 20 volunteers and its results are discussed.

Report on a patient with Psoriasis pustulosa generalisata Zumbusch. The withdrawal of corticosteroids and an allergy to iodines played an important part as causative agents. Hormonal aspects are discussed. Antibiotics according to the antibiogram and synthetic ACTH (Synacthen) are recommended as therapeutic measures.
