AbstractDermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is an uncommon, localiy and deepiy recurring dermal neoplasm that, when it occurs in cosmetically sensitive areas, can be devastating, particuiariy in children. AbstractA 31/2‐year‐old boy, born and living in Indonesia, experienced disseminated skin tesions and an uicerated, crusted, papillomatous lesion on the prepuce of hts penis. This location suggested venereal syphitis, but on clinical, seroiogic, and epidemiologic grounds a diagnosis of early yaws was made. AbstractBenign neonatal hemangjomatosis (BNH) is a disorder in which multiple cutaneous hemangiomas appear at birth or shortly thereafter; visceral complications are absent. While previously reported cases of BNH emphasize the relatively earty spontaneous regression of the cutaneous lesions, we describe a patient in whom new lesions arose and old ones persisted during the first year of life. The features of BNH are contrasted with those of diffuse neonatal hemangiomatosis (DNH), a dermatosis with a more grave prognosis.

AbstractPermethrin 5% cream (Elimite) was approved as a treatment for scabies by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in September 1989. in a doubie‐biinded, randomized study, it was compared with crotamiton 10% cream (Eurax) for the treatment of scabies in children 2 months to 5 years of age. Two weeks after a singie overnight treatment, 14 (30%) of 47 chiidren were cured with permethrin 5% cream, in contrast to oniy 6 of 47 (13%) of subjects treated with Eurax. Four weeks after treatment the figures were 89% and 60% cured for the two agents, respectively. In 10 of the 19 patients whose treatment failed, the condition became worse after therapy. The difference in efficacy in favor of permethrin was significant (P = 0.002). That agent also demonstrated greater effectiveness in reducing pruritus and secondary bacterial infections.
