摘要:
SummaryThe hepatic amebic abscess is the most frequent form of extraintestinal invasive amebiasis. Although the prevalence of amebiasis is relatively low in developed countries, it is considered a worldwide health problem. The sonographic findings reflect the anatomic pathologic features of the abscess. A wide range of findings are present depending on the clinical stage of the disease and its treatment. The most characteristic sonographic appearance includes a necrotic lesion, seen as an ovoid or round sonolucent lesion with increased through transmission. Differential diagnosis includes mainly hepatic abscesses of other etiologies. Ultrasound is an ideal method of examination because of the low cost and widespread availability, and also for the management of the disease by guiding drainage placement or diagnostic/therapeutic aspiration. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging are reserved for selected cases of difficult diagnosis with inconclusive ultrasound examination.

摘要:
SummaryFifty-nine clinical histories of hospitalized patients with clinical diagnoses of tuberculosis of the genitourinary (GU) tract were reviewed. The prevalence was greater in young adults with a male to female 2:1 ratio. Clinical symptoms were mainly related to vesical involvement. On physical examination, 33% of all patients were asymptomatic and 37% of males presented with enlargement of the scrotum. The main diagnostic imaging modalities used were the IV urography,Mycobacterium tuberculosiscultures of the urine, and, in four patients, histopathologic confirmation. Ultrasound of the swollen scrotum is nonspecific for this entity but in patients with known genitourinary tuberculosis, epididymitis and epididymo-orchitis may be attributed toM. tuberculosis.

摘要:
SummaryThe roundworm, Ascaris lumbricoides, has been one of the most constant companions since ancient times. It has been described in ancient text from Greece, Mesopotamia, Rome, and China. The detailed life cycle of the ascaris, however, was not known until 1916. The radiological diagnosis was possible because of the mass of worms in children's intestines contrasted against the bowel gas and because the complete intestinal obstruction can cause the typical staircase configuration of air fluid levels on plain radiographs of the abdomen.Ultrasound is most suited to demonstrate the tissue interfaces between the body of the parasite and the lumen of biliary ducts, pancreatic ducts, gallbladder, and other bodily orifices. Because ultrasound units are available in most developing countries, even in small remote countryside medical facilities, it is necessary to know the ultrasonographic findings of this parasitic infection.

摘要:
SummaryUltrasound represents an important contribution to the diagnosis of Mansoni's hepatosplenic schistosomiasis. Abnormalities that may be recognized are hyperechoic fibrotic bands along the portal vessels, volumetric reduction of the right hepatic lobe, enlargement of the left lobe, perivesicular fibrotic thickening, and splenomegally. Moreover, the hemodynamic status of the portal venous system may also be evaluated by Doppler analysis, including identification of collateral veins and portosystemic venous shunts. In endemic areas, ultrasound has a highlighted role in the identification of hepatic lesions and splenomegally and allows the follow-up of patients undergoing clinical treatment. This article presents the ultrasonographic and Doppler features of hepatosplenic schistosomiasis. The relationship between these findings and the clinicopathological aspects of this disease are also discussed.

摘要:
SummaryThe liver is the most frequent location of hydatid cysts. In endemic countries, ultrasound is the main tool for liver hydatid cyst diagnosis. The ultrasound aspect of hydatid cyst varies with the different development stages of the cyst. Several classifications were suggested, based on ultrasound findings. They allowed us to recognize the hydatid cyst through its different stages and to eliminate the differential diagnosis corresponding to each one.

摘要:
SummaryThe current status of therapy for abdominal echinococcal cysts is reviewed with emphasis on percutaneous treatment assisted by imaging techniques, mainly ultrasound (US). The percutaneous treatment under ultrasound guidance is commonly known as Puncture, Aspiration, Injection of a scolecide agent, Reaspiration (PAIR). The authors' experience with PAIR of abdominal (mostly hepatic) cysts is reported with a review of the available literature about this method. Long term results indicate that in Gharbi type I, II, and III cysts, and especially in developing countries, PAIR is the first choice method for the treatment of localized abdominal disease.

摘要:
SummaryThis article describes echographic findings of the intraocular manifestations of toxocariasis and cisticercosis. The records of 21 patients (21 eyes) with the clinical and echographic diagnosis of intraocular parasitosis are reviewed. In order of frequency, the most important echographic findings were vitreous opacities in all patients, granulomas (64%), vitreous membranes (48%), posterior vitreous detachment (28%), vitreoretinal traction (33%), and retinal detachment (38%). Ultrasound is useful in the diagnosis of intraocular parasitosis. It also helps in follow-up and may guide the ophthalmologist in determining appropriate treatment.
