摘要:
With recent improvements in instrument technology, pulsed Doppler and color coding of Doppler shift frequencies (color Doppler imaging) have become widespread as noninvasive methods for examining the flow of blood. In the carotid and vertebral circulation, pulsed Doppler imaging and color Doppler imaging are complementary modalities that enable accurate and reliable assessment of stenoses, occlusion, dissections, and steals. These applications of both pulsed Doppler and color Doppler imaging are discussed in this article. The limitations of color Doppler imaging as well as the advantages of this relatively new modality are illustrated in actual cases. A brief introductory section on flow parameters is provided and is followed by examples from the spectrum of pathology that can be studied and diagnosed by pulsed Doppler and color Doppler imaging of the carotid and vertebral circulation.

摘要:
Color Doppler carries a special promise in the investigation of the sick child: the technique is noninvasive, rarely requires sedation and outlines vessels especially well, because of the ready penetration of the small body by the ultrasound beam. This article outlines the present application in pediatric abdominal, peripheral vascular and cerebral diseases of the child: liver and kidney diseases and transplantation; thrombosis of abdominal and peripheral vessels; tumors; identification of unknown structures; acute scrotal diseases; intra-cranial hemorrhage, infarction, and hydrocephalus. The clinical application of color Doppler ultrasound in Pediatrics are rapidly expanding and what we describe as “future possibilities” may already be reality soon after this work is published.

摘要:
Color-flow Doppler imaging has opened a new window into the evaluation of suspected abdominal disease. Information on vascular patency and flow characteristics can be obtained quickly and in a graphic format. The technique probably has the greatest benefit in the depiction of small or branch vessels such as the ready identification of hepatic artery in hepatic transplants and arterial flow waveform sampling from segmental and interlobar arteries in the transplant kidney. The complex anatomy and physiology of a portocaval shunt and Budd-Chiari syndrome is better portrayed with color-Doppler imaging than standard duplex Doppler sonography. While physiologic information can be obtained from the hepatic and portal veins and superior mesenteric artery with a standard duplex Doppler sonography, the color-Doppler test enables the examinations to be performed more expeditiously and perhaps with more reliability.
