摘要:
Percutaneous ethanol injection, performed under ultrasound guidance, can be used to successfully ablate solid and cystic masses in a variety of anatomic locations. Ethanol, as a treatment agent, combines the benefits of being widely available, inexpensive, safe, and easy to administer. Ultrasound, as a guidance method, provides continuous real-time needle visualization so that the ethanol can be precisely injected into the mass. Hepatocellular carcinoma and parathyroid adenoma, which are the two solid masses that are most commonly treated with ethanol ablation, can be ablated with this technique with a high degree of success and low rate of complications. Symptomatic cystic masses such as renal cysts and hepatic cysts can also be successfully ablated through the use of ethanol injection. This article will review the current indications, techniques, and results of the procedure of percutaneous ethanol injection of solid and cystic masses as it is used in the practice of radiology today.

摘要:
Diagnostic ultrasonography has shown an incredible rate of development during the past 2 decades. This advance has most recently been marked by the introduction of duplex technology and Doppler color flow imaging. The full impact of these new technologies may not be realized until their clinical usefulness has been defined. With application of duplex scanning and Doppler color flow imaging to evaluation of the visceral vasculature, the user quickly becomes aware of the capabilities and limitations of these modalities. An understanding of the basics of duplex and color flow technology and the complexity of visceral hemodynamics is essential to achieve accurate ultrasound evaluations of these circulatory systems.

摘要:
The use of B-scan ultrasound in the diagnosis of a number of pathological conditions of the eye is discussed and the diagnostic criteria for the different conditions are presented. Color Doppler is a relatively new modality which may provide valuable additional information to enhance the diagnostic accuracy of the sonographic exam. Its use in the assessment of a variety of conditions is demonstrated.

摘要:
Ovarian cancer risk is at least I in 70 and may be as high as 1 in 2 for a minority of patients. Options for surveillance include routine physical examination, CA 125, and ultrasound screening. Data published to date indicate that trans-vaginal ultrasound is the most successful technique in identifying stage I cancers. However, patients may develop widespread ovarian cancer despite all screening efforts. The cost of screening is reasonable vs. other options. Color Doppler technology adds to the confidence of benign diagnosis for postmenopausal patients and is now essential for expert pelvic imaging. Advances in genetic markers will probably mean greater reliance upon ultrasound imaging.
