摘要:
SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONSForty–six cases of carcinoma of the penis treated primarily by surgery were reviewed. The following conclusions were reached:1Clinical staging as determined at the initial examination was of little value.2Pathological division into “solid” or “cord” pattern was of great importance in selecting cases with a good (solid) or poor prognosis (cord). The degree of differentiation was of much less prognostic value.3Urinary troubles were rare following a partial or radical amputation.4There was little point in preserving penile length except for psychological reasons, as few cases were having regular sexual intercourse when their disease was diagnosed. We would like to thank Mr W. Keith Yeates of the Department of Urology, Newcastle General Hospital, for permission to include a number of his cases in th

摘要:
SUMMARYSix patients with Peyronie's disease were studied by the radiographic technique of corpus cavernosography, and five received combined hydrocortisone and hyalase injections, the results of which are reported. The cavernosogram offers a method of measuring objectively the exten of the disease and the response to treatment. We are grateful to Mr Gerald Tresidder for permission to investigate and treat these patients, and to Mr John Blandy for advice and encouragement.

摘要:
SUMMARYA brief SUMMARY of balanitis xerotica obliterans is presented including the characteristic histology. A typical case with photographs is used to illustrate the various stages and methods of treatment with topical and sublesional corticosteroids. The greatest advantage of the two methods described is that the steroids are deposited locally at the site of the lesion, maintaining a concentration there far surpassing that which may be obtained by oral or intramuscular administration. The preferable method would seem to be the sublesional injection technique although the occlusive technique may be used to advantage in some cases. It is our opinion that treatment should be instituted immediately after biopsy confirmation of the diagnosis of balanitis xerotica obliterans and not postponed until after the onset of meatal stenosis.

摘要:
SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS1Two cases of lipogranulomata of the male genitalia are presented.2They may present as an acute disease or as a more chronic lesion with symptoms and signs coming on months or years after injection.3Often there is no history of injection and the patient is apt to be psychiatrically abnormal.4There is a febrile reaction but no leucocyte response. In one case there was splenomegaly.5The treatment is surgical removal of the affected skin and indurated subcutaneous tissue. The macroscopic and microscopic features are described.I wish to thank Mr E. J. Radley–Smith and Mr A. Emlyn Williams for permission to publish these cases which were admitted under their care. I would also like to express my thanks to Mr John Hopewell and Mr H. Daintree Johnson for their most helpful criticism and suggestion

摘要:
SUMMARYThis report is based on five cases of idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis treated at St Thomas's Hospital, London. Three cases are described in detail. The need for diagnostic awareness when investigating backache and disturbances of urine output is emphasised. The usefulness of the E.S.R. and retrograde ureterogram in making the diagnosis is illustrated. The Photographic Department of St Thomas's Hospital has provided the illustrations. The operative procedures used in management are discussed, preference being given to extended ureterolysis with lateral displacement of the ureters to prevent their subsequent recurrent involvement.Intraluminal ureteral pressure recordings are presented in support of the hypothesis that the ureteral obstruction in retroperitoneal fibrosis is functional in nature.I wish to thank the staff of the Department of Urology, St Thomas's Hospital, London, and in particular Mr Kenneth Shuttleworth under whose care these patients were, for permission to publish this paper. Thanks are also due to Mr Martin Claridge and Mr Adrian Marston, who carried out some of the surgery described.

摘要:
SUMMARYA 36–year–old male diabetic developed a bizarre acute illness which was eventually revealed as severe retroperitoneal fibrosis and pericystitis plastica for which nephro–ureterectomy was performed. The co–existing prostato–vesiculitis and gross lymphadenopathy are discussed in relation to the ætiology of this mysterious pathological process. Cytological studies of the lymphadenopathy and retroperitoneal tissue are also presented, together with the pyelographic appearances. The cytological studies (A. J. W.) are supported by grants from the Ernest and Minnie Dawson Cancer Trust, and the University of Birmingham Cancer Research Fund. Our thanks are due to Mr T. Dee for photogr

摘要:
SUMMARYSpontaneous urinary sediments in cases of so–called phosphaturia have been observed with the electron microscope and X–ray diffractometer. Spherulite–like elements and clusters were seen and they showed a poor crystalline structure, almost completely amorphous, as judged by their X–ray diffraction patterns. Extremely minute, but well–formed, crystals were found in other cases, which, under the optical microscope, appeared to be amorphous calcium phosphates; these gave a typical apatite–like diffraction pattern. The occasional presence of calcium phosphate (apatite–like) true crystalluria could be
