摘要:
The problem of numerical correction of spectrograms is addressed. A new method of correction is developed which consists of sequential use of the Tikhonov deconvolution algorithm, for estimating the positions of spectral peaks, and a curve-fitting algorithm, for estimating their magnitudes. The metrological and numerical properties of the proposed method for spectrogram interpretation are assessed by means of spectrometry-based criteria, using synthetic and real-world spectrograms. Conclusions are drawn concerning computational complexity and accuracy of the proposed method and its metrological applicability.

摘要:
A simple apparatus has been developed for the spectroscopic temperature measurement of combustion gases. It has been used to measure the temporal temperature-time distribution of exploded gas in the muzzle flash from a small calibre rifle. From our experiments, three distinct flashes can be observed clearly. The maximum time resolution and accuracy for temperature measurement are 40μs and 6%, respectively.

摘要:
This paper describes a new remote spectral imaging system (RSIS) based on an acousto-optic tunable filter (AOTF) capable of remote sensing using an imaging fiberoptic probe (IFP). A two-dimensional charge coupled device (CCD) was used as a detector. The AOTF was used as a wavelength selector. Unlike a tunable grating or prism based monochromator, the tunable filter has no moving parts, and it can be rapidly tuned to any wavelength in its operating range. The large aperture of the AOTF and its high spatial resolution allowed the optical image from an IFP to be recorded by a CCD. These characteristics, combined with their small size, make AOTF's important new alternatives to conventional monochromators, especially for spectral multisensing and imaging. A prototype RSIS system, using both IFP and AOTF, was developed and its feasibility for spectral imaging was demonstrated.

The construction of a scanning electrode system is described. The system is designed to measure chemical and electrical parameters above surfaces. It was tested with scanning reference and scanning pH electrodes on a steel coupon which contains a weld, several artificial corrosion pits of different depths and diameters, and an artificial crack of varying depth. The apparatus is computer controlled; the program for control of the apparatus is provided. A stationary electrode is utilized with a moved examined surface (a coupon). The apparatus is capable of determining surface dimensions of pits, but not pit depths. The artificial pits and crack were shown to be anodic locations. The solution above the pits and crack was more acidic than the solution above the remainder of the coupon.

摘要:
The approach to using a single pan DTA unit, proposed in an earlier paper, is checked and the results obtained are tested by using the exothermic reactions that the corn cobs undergo due to oxidation. The plots obtained from the data of time versus temperature are used for obtaining information similar to the DTA plots. The two types of plots can be compared as a simultaneous TG-DTA unit is used to generate the data.

摘要:
A microwave-induced acoustic (MIA) technique is described, which can be used to follow changes in the relative acidity of papers during the aging processes. Rapid aging is simulated by exposure of paper samples to atmospheres containing gaseous NOxand HCl. The MIA results correlate well with tensile strength measurements and are consistent with increasing acidity causing decreased fibre strength due to acid hydrolysis. The presence of some lignin content in papers appears to slow at least the initial detrimental effects caused by NOxexposure. The MIA technique is non-destructive and can be adapted to on-line measurements.
