摘要:
A Microcomputer has been employed for the automation of two types of measurements: Ellipsometry, and ac impedance in a wide frequency range (“network analysis”). These measurements are combined in the characterization of electrochemical interfaces. An identical simple and fast algorithm has been employed in both cases for the digital analysis of a sinusoidal signal. The rotating analyzer ellipsometer has a time resolution of 0.01 sec and a precision of 0.01 deg, following 1 sec integration time. The network analyzer generates a complex plane plot in the range of 10mHz-1kHz in 5 min. These specification have been achieved by employing only basic electrochemical instrumentation and a manual ellipsometer, in conjunction with a low cost microcomputer.

摘要:
A versatile, high-resolution counter/timer, suitable for inclusion in microcomputer systems is described. The counter/timer unit, which contains five independent counters, has a maximum counting frequency of 7 MHz. Various operating modes and their scientific applications are discussed. Several other LSI timing devices are also presented for comparison purposes. Finally, several practical applications are shown, including timing, sequencing, and waveform generation.

摘要:
Raman spectroscopy applied to biological systems is often dominated by interfering fluorescence background. In this report Raman scattering of benzene in the presence of strong fluorescence was obtained via phase sensitive detection upon sinusoidally modulating the continous wave laser beam at tens of MHz. Extended detectability of the 992 cm−1frequency was obtained, but the signal enhancement is greatly dependent on the experimental measuring time.

摘要:
A simple and inexpensive emulator interface for replacing ROM with memory programmable from a host computer is described. The unit can be used with any commercial micro- or minicomputer with a parallel output port. The emulator interface was developed for running a dedicated Z80 based system on an Apple II+ computer.

摘要:
A hardware/software design strategy is described for the automation, control and data processing operations of an ion-exchange atomic-absorption instrument for metal ion speciation. The hardware incorporates an IBM PC, Perkin-Elmer atomic-absorption spectrophotometer (AAS) with analog output, peristaltic pump, multiple solenoid valves, and a robot arm. The automated operations are to equilibrate a micro ion-exchange column with sample, wash the column, and elute the metal into the AAS with nitric acid. The software, designed to optimize the language with the application, employs machine language for data acquisition, valve control, and graphics display, and compiled BASIC for operational control.
