摘要:
A robust autonomous system is described for the spectrophotometric determination of aqueous elemental iodine in multiple flowing process streams. The quantitative methodology uses characteristic absorbance at 460 nm, corrected for baseline drift using absorbance at 600 nm. Linear dynamic ranges of 0.2 - 25 mg/L, 0.4 - 45 mg/L, and 2 - 250 mg/L have been attained using path lengths of 1 cm, 5 cm, and 10 cm respectively. The multiplexed iodine monitor has proven capable of continuous operation for periods of up to eighteen months.

摘要:
We describe the development of a simple and compact spectrometer for use in Raman and Surface-enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) analysis. The instrument using an avalanche photodiode is designed to use under field conditions with simple optical samples. Examples of measurement of a variety of chemicals are used to illustrate the performance of the instrument.

The analysis is performed by chromatographic techniques. Mainly Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC), Gas Chromatography (GC) and High Performance Liguid Chromatography (HPLC) are applied.

Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA) and Dielectric Analysis (DEA) are two widely used techniques for the characterization of polymers. Combining the two techniques allows incremental information to be obtained about the behavior of polymer systems. Simultaneous DMA-DEA measurements are achieved using the DMA parallel plate, or cup and plate, measuring system, simultaneously, as electrodes for the DEA. Another option for simultaneous measurement is to use a surface detecting, interdigitated electrode sensor in the DMA to obtain DEA measurements. An epoxy prepreg curing system was investigated using the DMA-DEA technique. The data collected during the cure show that the technique gives complementary information. DMA provides absolute viscosity, gel point and vitrification point, while DEA gives relative viscosity change, rate of reaction and end of cure. This paper describes the experimental setup and the data collected on the polymer curing system.

摘要:
The effectiveness of fluorometric scanning using a fiber optic to analyze substances adsorbed onto solid surfaces is described. The relative efficiencies of signal capture by different widths of monochromator slits were studied. The signal and signal-to-noise ratios were compared using monochromators or long-pass filters. Accuracy and precision of the measurements were compared with and without substraction of the background signal; the detection limits for fluorescein and several phenothiazine compounds were compared under different experimental conditions to explore the range of effectiveness of the system.
