Photo-resists are photographical materials whose transmittance is a complex function. It modifies the phase of the incident wave mainly by variations in the thickness of the photo-sensitive layer. It will be shown in this paper that their response follows a well-determined relation; the thickness of the dephasing layer is a definite function of the energy received. In that relation the values assumed by three parameters defined in this paper permit the characterization of the contrast, deviation from linearity, sensitivity and threshold energy for each pair of photo-resist-developer. Photo-resists are polymers in solution. For the same kind of polymer, changing the way of preparation and the developer used gives a wide range of contrasts and changes the linearity of the response, etc. The justification for these changes can be found in the physicochemical characteristics of polymers. Photo-resists can be used for the synthesis of optical correcting plates and filters, kinoforms, phase holograms, etc. Knowing the response curve should allow for the use of a specific pair of photo-resist-developer that could suit the needs for a certain intensity distribution; a photo-resist with better reproducibility, that could have a greater precision and a wide dynamic of response, or with a better approach to linearity, could then be prepared based on the general principles that we are expounding.

摘要:
The dispersion curve for the index of refraction of anodically formed Ta2O5thin films has been obtained from the interference minima of the reflection spectrum in the region 2750-14000 Å. The dependence on the wavelength may be expressed asnλ= 1·85 + 1671/(λ−903). The change of phase which takes place upon reflection is also obtained.

摘要:
An expression is derived for the irradiance distribution in the neighbourhood of the geometrical image plane of a grating. The illuminating source has finite dimensions and emits over a large spectral width. Only two or three diffracted orders are used to form the grating image. A knowledge of three-dimensional irradiance distribution is of particular importance in estimating the tolerance in the setting of the receiving plane in an image forming system.

摘要:
A practical interpolative technique for the preliminary design of a complex triplet lens using Cruickshank's analysis and Buchdahl's optical aberration coefficients is described. The technique, based on the mapping of the coefficients, is used to investigate the seventh-order solutions of a triplet lens with a view to systematically controlling the zonal spherical aberration. It is shown that monochromatic solutions of the Hektor type, generated from a particular region of the basic parameters, have third, fifth and seventh-order spherical coefficients of small value that alternate in sign.

The amplitude distribution in the scalar far-field approximation is derived as a simple expression, involving only sinc functions, in terms of two non-orthogonal coordinates related to the lengths and directions of two sides of the triangle. Photographs are juxtaposed with computed contours to show the real and the imaginary parts of this expression.

摘要:
A new multiple-beam interference microscope is described. This makes use of very sensitive sharp fringes of equal thickness. These fringes can be produced in the double-layer interferometer with white, quasi-monochromatic or laser beams. The microscope consists of two inverted microscopes with conjugate mirrors such that the length of the first microscope is a multiple of that of the second one. The first microscope can be replaced by a multi-mode laser and the microscope with conjugate mirrors forms the image of the object either in transmission or at reflection. A high axial resolution can be obtained without reducing the transverse resolution. The volume resolution of the microscope with conjugate mirrors is increasedpNtimes over that of the single-layer interference microscope, wherepis the interference order andNis the reflectivity finesse.
