摘要:
Expressions for the variance,v(r, ψ), of the aberration difference function at sagittal (ψ=0) and tangential orientations are presented in terms of modified Buchdahl retardation coefficients. Theoretical comparisons, for simple forms of the aberration function, of optimum image plane positions predicted using minimization of these variances are made with those predicted using minimization of the r.m.s. radius and of the variance of the wavefront aberration. Numerical comparisons using real systems show substantial qualitative agreement with the theoretical results. Further numerical comparisons of functions derived from the spot diagram, the o.t.f., and the m.t.f. are also discussed, and it is shown thatV(r, ψ) provides a very versatile assessment function for automatical optical design.

摘要:
A formalism is given to generalize the laws of radiometry to include partially coherent fields. This is an alternative formalism to the one proposed by Walther, Marchand, and Wolf. The generalization of radiometry is formulated as a natural extension of the pioneering work due to Wolf in formulating the theory of partial coherence. For the non-coherent case it is shown that the generalized quantities reduce to their counterparts in conventional radiometry.

摘要:
The amount of motion in a linear motion blurred picture is estimated by finding the spatial frequency where the power spectrum of the blurred picture, calculated by a digital computer, shows a minimum value. Influences of the structure of the original pattern and the noise added in recording blurred pictures to the estimation of the motion blur are also discussed.

摘要:
The probability density function of the irradiance distribution of the incoherent superposition of uncorrelated speckle patterns is calculated. Using this probability density function the contrast of a photographic recording of the irradiance distribution is determined, taking the non-linearity of the film characteristic into account. These relations are applied to quantitative displacement and vibration measurement by the optical ‘Chladni’ method. Experimental results are given and the accuracy is discussed.

摘要:
The high self-induced thermal effects due to a focused laser beam produce non-uniform phase-matching conditions over the cross section of a non-linear crystal. These depend on the absorbed power of the laser beam, wavelength, temperature coefficient of birefringence, thermal conductivity and focusing parameter. The behaviour of second harmonic power versus temperature shows a reduction in conversion efficiency, a broadening of both central and secondary peaks and shifts of their maxima towards higher temperature besides the reduction in the height of secondary peaks.
