摘要:
The self-imaging phenomenon of a square wave binary amplitude grating is studied. The intensity distributions in the Fresnel diffraction image planes lying at distancesz= (M-1/4)d2/u from the grating illuminated by a plane wave are calculated. It is found that these images are very similar to the object structure. As a consequence, some potential applications are proposed.

摘要:
An exact ray representation for optical fibre helical rays is presented. The ray representation is related to the usual mode representation by a set of non-linear mapping relations which map ray functions into mode functions and viceversa. This duality of optical representations is shown to satisfy an invariant constraint closely related to the Lewis invariant.

摘要:
The use of coherence measurements to detect diffracting structures masked by noise is investigated theoretically. The overall parity of the image reversals embodied in a two-beam interferometric experimental arrangement is shown to be of crucial significance in interpreting the resulting degree of coherence measurements. Phase curvature at source is also shown to have a discernible effect on the far-zone intensity and coherence. These results are in excellent agreement with recent interferometric experiments.

摘要:
A graphic method of moiré patterning is presented. It employs spatial frequencies and their representation in a polar diagram. Using the polar frequency diagrams of interfering figures the symmetries and spatial frequencies of moiré patterns may be predicted. The method is useful with figures of continuous lines as well as with figures of discrete elements. It accounts for effects involving subharmonics of the interfering figures, dominancy of several concurring moiré patterns, and optical contrast. The interfering figures may have any symmetry. The number of interfering figures may be two or more.

摘要:
On traite du problème de la propagation d'un faisceau lumineux dans un système formé d'un matériau d'épaisseur finie, séparant deux milieux semiinfinis différents. Après avoir étudié le cas d'un éclairement monochromatique, on considère le cas général d'un éclairement non-monochromatique. Cette analyse inclut en particulier le cas où l'épaisseur du matériau est du même ordre de grandeur que la longueur de cohérence de la source. Les expressions obtenues pour la réflectance et la transmittance s'appliquent à des milieux diélectriques, magnétiques ou conducteurs, pour des angles d'incidence quelconques. Les expressions de la réflectance et de la transmittance sont données en fonction des indices complexes des milieux, de l'épaisseur du matériau et de l'angle d'incidence.
