On montre que la précision dans le calcul d'un produit de convolution de deux fonctions f et g illimitées, dont les transformées de Fourier sont de domaine fini, dépend non seulement de l'abscisse de tronquage de la fonction échantillonnée, mais encore du choix du pas d'échantillonnageh: la précision la meilleure est obtenue lorsqueh=h0inverse du domaine du plus grand des spectresFetG. Il arrive même que le résultat obtenu soit rigoureusement exact: c'est le cas où l'une des fonctions est une combinaison linéaire à nombre fini de termes des basesbp(x) = sinc (x−ph0)/h0.

The complex amplitude and intensity distributions in the near field of a plane periodic grating are calculated. To assist in the evaluation of various proposals to utilize the periodic behaviour of the diffraction pattern in the direction of the normal to the grating as a basis for spectrometric and metrological instruments, calculations are made for simple line and space gratings.

The reconstruction of an object from its image is studied from the point of view of the coherence theory including detection in the process of imaging. Finite-size objects permit the use of the theory of entire functions to prove that if the transformation from object to image is linear (detection is not included in imaging) the object can be reconstructed uniquely. Non-linear transformations from object to image (detection is included in imaging) for weak visibility objects and for a particular choice of the diffraction function are also studied. In the first case a finite-size object is determined uniquely, in the second case the reconstructed object is determined apart from the phase, which can sometimes be determined from the dispersion relations. Further, the similarity between an object and its image is investigated. It is shown that partial coherence creates typical non-linearity in imaging which results in an interval of eigenvalues (similarity coefficients) and that there may arise the branching of a structure imaged similarly into several structures imaged similarly.

Die Minimumstrahlkennzeichnung wird auf das von Dersch und Wolter durchgeführte Schlierenverfahren angewandt. Statt der dort benutzten quadratischen Minima eines Spaltbeugungsbildes wird ein System linearer Minima zur Kennzeichnung des Lichtweges verwendet, das von einem Biprisma erzeugt wird. Aus den von eindimensionalen Objekten hervorgerufenen Ablenkungen dieser ‘Minimumstrahlen’ können die Objekteigenschaften ermittelt werden. Als Beispiele werden die verschiedenen Stadien einer Diffusionszone zwischen destilliertem Wasser und wässriger Zuckerlösung quantitativ behandelt. Mit diesem Verfahren kann der Brechungsindexverlauf auch dann aufgenommen werden, wenn sich dessen Gradient lokal stark ändert. Ein Vergleich der auf diese Weise gewonnenen Brechungsindizes mit refraktometrisch gemessenen Werten ergibt gute Übereinstimmung. Aus den Maximalablenkungen zusammengehöriger Ablenkkurven wird der Diffusionskoeffizient einer wässrigenD-Glukose-Lösung bestimmt. Der Gewinnfaktor der Genauigkeit beträgt 36,6.

La superposition de deux hologrammes sur une même plaque donne lieu, dans le processus de restitution, à des phénomènes d'interférence mettant en évidence les déplacements et, éventuellement, les déformations de faible amplitude de l'objet. Si l'on considère les franges qui apparaissent dans la direction de l'image restituée, leur localisation par rapport à celle-ci, leur forme et leur contraste fournissent une information quantitative sur les composantes du déplacement (translations et rotations) subi par la surface de l'objet. D'autre part, un réseau de franges de Fraunhofer, centrées sur la source de restitution (ordre 0), est observable dans certaines conditions et permet de préciser un critère de non-déformation de l'objet au cours d'un déplacement donné. On montre que le phénomène est identifiable au spectre de Fourier d'une transmittance constituée par deux pupilles complexes identiques légèrement décalées l'une par rapport à l'autre. La validité du critère est vérifiée expérimentalement dans le cas de déplacements repérables. Les différents éléments superficiels de l'objet sont caractérisés, compte tenu d'une notion définie antérieurement (rayons et ondelettes homologues).

The phase of the first beam in multiple-beam fringes in transmission has been altered by introducing a phase plate in its path. Reflection-like fringes in transmission result when the phase angle introduced is close to π.
