摘要:
Summary.Stages ofGaleichthys felisbetween 8 and 50 mm. were examined. The skull is platybasic, with indications of a pila antotica, and without a sign of a trigeminofacialis chamber or a previously functional myodome. The myodomal spaces are discussed. The occipital cross commissure is rudimentary and misplaced medially, and the anterior pit line relation is identical with that ofAmiaand reminiscent of Palaeoniscids. The so‐called “internal carotid” is really the efferent pseudobranchial artery and it passes through the trabecula in development. The internal carotid is absent in all stages examined. The pseudobranch is genuine pseudobranch, Pituitary veins are present. The hyomandibular fuses with the palatoquadrate. The relations of the viith nerve to the hyomandibular articulation are peculiar, and a thin strip of cartilage inserted into the hyomandibular articulation is described. A tabular, endopterygoid and pre‐articular have been recognized, and the identity of the post‐temporal definitely established. The following bones are shown to be the result

摘要:
Summary.1The eye‐coverings of three species of geckos belonging to the generaColeonyx, StenodactylusandPtenopushave been studied by means of serial sections.2InColeonyxtrue eyelids and probably a small nictitating membrane are present and there is no brille or spectacle. The relationships of these structures to the cornea, Harderian gland ductules and lachrymal canaliculi are essentially similar to those inLacerta, and conform to the characteristic saurian pattern.3InStenodactylusandPtenopusa brille is present, and is surrounded by prominent extra‐brillar fringes. These structures are very extensive inPtenopusand contain muscle fibres. The relationship of these fringes to the ductules of the Harderian gland and to the lachrymal canaliculi which open into the subbrillar space indicates, however, that the fringes cannot be regarded as homologous with the eyelids of other lizards.4By demonstrating that true eyelids and a brille are not found in association, these findings are regarded as evidence for the palpebral origin of the brille in geckos which is therefore homologous with that in sna
