摘要:
The multi-lumen subclavian catheter is emerging as a boon to I.V. therapy. Patients requiring long-term multiple infusions and repeated blood tests, as well as patients with severely limited peripheral venous access, have successfully been maintained on I.V. therapy for several months without any complications. Successful management of these catheters requires the meticulous attention to detail that is most often accomplished by a conscientious, 24-hour I.V. nursing team.

摘要:
Home I.V. therapy is becoming increasingly popular throughout the nation. Candidate selection and adequate predischarge training are key factors in determining the success of I.V. therapy. The authors demonstrate, through personal experience and problem-solving techniques, that patients who do not entirely meet the criteria for home care selection can successfully receive home I.V. antibiotic therapy if the I.V. nurse is willing to “go the extra mile” to assure success.

摘要:
The cost savings of preparing selected continuous I.V. infusions in a standard concentration as opposed to a varied concentration was studied. Data on 48 patients receiving maintenance doses of aminophylline administered by continuous infusion and 31 patients receiving maintenance doses of heparin by continuous infusion were collected. The orders were analyzed to determine standardized concentrations for the study. The cost of preparing the infusions as originally written was compared with what the cost would have been if a standard had been utilized. Those costs included the cost of drugs, I.V. solutions, needles and syringes, alcohol swabs, tamper-proof seals, and employee time. The results project an annual savings, when utilizing a standard concentration, of $6,600-11,100 for aminophylline and $3,800- 3,900 for heparin.
