Home health care is one of the most rapidly growing areas of health care today. A natural alternative to the delivery of I.V. therapy by the hospital's I.V. team is home I.V. therapy. In today's competitive environment, when hospital administrators are looking at ways to remain solvent, home I.V. therapy may be the answer. This article looks at the how-to's of providing home I.V. therapy, either through a hospital-based home care program or through joint ventures with established providers of service.

I.V. therapy record sheets provide consistent and accurate documentation for I.V. catheter insertion, monitoring sites, and dressing changes. They can be a system for charging and retrieving statistical data on infection and phlebitis rates, thus helping to justify I.V. teams.
