AbstractThis paper describes the progress on the synthesis of organic selenides and tellurides and their application in organic synthesis. Low dent selenium and telluronium compounds having high reducing selectivity can be used to form carbon‐hydrogen bonds an special reducing reagents. Telluronium ylides can react with aldehydes and ketones by Wittig‐type condensation to produce (E)‐configuration alkenes stereoselectively. α‐Phenylselanyl arsonium ylides were prepared by transylidation reaction of arsonium ylides with phenylselanyl halides which can undergo Wittig‐type reactions with carbonyl compounds to give (Z)‐α‐selanyl‐α,β‐unsaturated compounds with high stereoselectivity. Zirconium, tin, boron, halogen, metal or hetero‐atom were introduced in organoselenium and telluronium compounds an new difunctional group reagents. Under transition metal catalysis, the corresponding cross coupling reactions provide new methods of formation of carbon‐carbon double bonds, which were used in the stereoselective

AbstractA series of squarylium cyanine dyes (Sqs) were synthesised to explore their applications in functional devices. Preliminary investigation on the mechanism involved in these devices was carried out. Spectroscopic behavior of Sqs with porphyrin (P), 8‐hydroxyquinolium aluminum (Alq) and ruthenium bipyridyl complex (Ru(bipy)) in solution, in film and on nanocrystalline TiO2was investigated, respectively. A mechanism including photoinduced energy transfer and charge transfer processes was suggested in the corresponding practical devices. By means of doping, a red organic electroluminescent device (ELD) using Sq‐doped Alq as the emission layer (EML) has been developed, and the total light to electricity efficiency of nanocrystalline TiO2electrode based on using Sq‐doped Ru(bipy) M photosensitizer has been improved greatly in the whole visible region, particularly in the red area above 6

AbstractOn the basis of the common feature among the electron transfer process and the ion hydration process as well as the relevant experimental kinetic data of electron trader reaction, a new accurate hydration potential function scheme for the determination of electron transfer coupling matrix element is presented. The coupling matrix element between two hydrated ions of the reacting system in solution is calculated. The results and the applicability of this scheme are discussed.

AbstractThe herbicidal activities of a series of 1,2,4‐triacolo[l,5‐a]pyrimidine‐2‐sulfonanilides containing various substituents on the benzene ring were quantitatively analyzed with physicochemical parameters by using Hansch‐Fujita method.
