Pollen of 29Trolliusspecies was investigated with light and scanning electron microscopy. The grains are suboblate to prolate, circular in outline in polar view, (2)3(5)‐colpate, striate or striato‐rugulate. Three pollen types are recongnised: (1)T. acaulis‐typcincludingT. acaulis, T. lilacinus, T. afghanicus, T. chartosepalus, andT. laxusis characterized by a roughly striate or striato‐rugulate surface, granulate colpus membranes, and generally larger grain size, (2)T. chosenensis‐typeincluding only this species is characterized by a roughly striate surface, gemmate colpus membranes, and large grain size; and (3)T. europaeus‐type including most of the species is characterized by a finely striate surface, shortly echinate colpus membrane, and generally smaller grains. The sectional system of Dofoszewska (1974) is compared with the groups suggested by the palynological results and it is proposed that it should be amended.

The pollen morphology of 27 out of 31 species of the genusStryphnodendronwas studied. General pollen morphology shows important variations in spite of the fact that the genus has a rather uniform gross morphology. Three pollen types are recognized, linked by transitions. Morphological trends are established and the extent to which they may indicate natural relationships is evaluated. Infrageneric subdivisions are discussed.

摘要:
The pollen grains of 14Acaciaspecies from different parts of Sudan are described. The number of grains in each polyad is 16 except inA. albidawhich has 32 grains in each polyad. The pollen diameter, and pore number and diameter, follow a geographical pattern of variation both between species and topoclines within species. Pollen grains are smaller with fewer and smaller pores in arid northern Sudan than humid southern Sudan. Patterns of morphological variation in sculpturing of the exine, which are constant for species, are reported.

摘要:
There are only three unrelated families (Onagraceae, Ericaceae and Cacsalpiniaceae) known so far with viscin thread bearing pollen grains. In this work members of the Onagraceae and Ericaceae were investigated. Supposing that the viscin threads represent a specialized part of the exine, it is assumed that they are deduced from a single exine architecture principle. This can be confirmed especially for the investigated species. Similarities are also recognizable in early developmental stages. These similarities are the massive nexine, the endosexinel layer, consisting of sporopolleninous elements arranged in a paracristalline configuration and furthermore the tectal layer which can be identified by a higher gradation of sporopollenin polymerisation.

Afin de déterminer la variabilité des resultats obtenus à l'aide des capteurs aéropalynologiques les plus usuels, une étude comparative a été entreprise à Montréal, durant la saison pollinique de l'ambroisie (Ambrosiaspp.) au cours de l'été 1988. Des échantillonneurs Burkard, Durham et Rotorod ont été implantés sur le toit d'un édifice de quatre étages, en milieu urbain. Des variations importantes ont été enregistrées en ce qui concerne la concentration moyenne de pollen recueilli à l'aide des différents échantillonneurs. De plus, de forts écarts du pourcentage de variation entre les concentrations quotidiennes des différents capteurs ont été remarqués. Les variations qui existent entre l'échantillonneur Durham et le Rotorod ont pu être corrélées avec les variables météorologiques qui prévalaient au moment de l'échantillonnage. Toutefois, seules la vitesse du vent et l'abondance des précipitations montrent une certaine relation avec les pourcentages de variation. Il existe donc d'autres variables non‐pondérées qui ont influencées les échantillonneurs lors de cette étude. Parmi celles‐ci, l'application de la substance adhésive sur la surface réceptrice (lame ou tige) pourrait bien être déterminante. Les résultats de cette étude permettent de douter de l'efficacité du capteur Durham en ce qui concerne sa capacité à recueillir un échantillonnage représentatif des grains de pollen dans l'air urbain.

Sampling performed with a Burkard Seven Day Volumetric Pollen and Spore Trap in a meadow situated in the subalpine birch woodland belt at Kongsvold during the pollen seasons of 1982–1984 revealed 33 different pollen types, withBetula, Poaceae andUrticaas the most frequent taxa, constituting 75–80% of the total seasonal sum. Poaceae andUrticaalone contributed more than 50%. The total sum of pollen grains recorded varied greatly from one season to another. The 1983 season showed the highest concentrations of pollen grains andCladosporiumspores of the three years in question. Studies of the start and duration of the main pollen season of the common types of pollen have shown thatUrtica, in particular, was remarkably constant from year to year. Special attention is given to the incidence of long‐distance transport ofBetulapollen, which showed a maximum prior to the localBetulaflowering, reflecting the earlier lowland flowering. MostCladosporiumspores were recorded during July and August, with seasonal maxima occurring simultaneously with the local hay‐making. The main occurrence and the maxima of the common pollen types andCladosporiumspores were recorded during the morning or afternoon,Urticashowing the most regular diurnal periodicity.

The pollen rain in the Salado Depression (N.E. of Buenos Aires Province) was studied, using the Tauber sampler with monthly changes through 1987. The sampler was set up at a height of 1.5 m and exposed to the vegetation of humid prairies and halophilous steppes withDistichlisspp. Relative frequencies and the absolute number of pollen and spores were calculated. The most abundant pollen grains of herbs are: Iridaceae, Poaceae, Ambrosiinae. Other Asteraceae types, Amaryllidaceae/Alliaceae, Chenopodiaceae/Amaranthoideae and Cyperaceae are less important. The dominant trees are:Celtis tala, Scutia buxifolia, and two cultivated genera,Casuarinaspp., andEucalyptusspp. Mosses are very well represented. The absolute minimum of pollen and spores is found in June, and the maxima in November and February.

Whole grass plants were collected in Rochester, MN during the month of June. Grass leaves, excluding the pollinating parts of the plants, were washed with distilled water, extracted and analyzed for rye grass allergens by RAST inhibition. Rye grass pollen allergens were found in orchard grass, brome, Timothy, June and annual rye leaves. No such allergenic activity was found in blue grass and canary grass leaves. These results are in contrast with pollen extracts. All pollens, including canary and blue grass, did contain rye group allergens. The fact that grass pollen allergen is present in the leaves of lawn grasses is consistent with the hypothesis that allergen aerosolized from the leaves during mowing contribute to the allergic symptoms of grass allergic individuals.
