Morphology and ultrastructure of stigma, transmitting tissue and pollen were examined inGrevillea banksiiR. Br. (Proteaceae), a bird-pollinated shrub with stylar presentation of pollen. Stigmatic cells are not cuticularised and secrete copious lipidic exudate. Intercellular material of the thick primary walls of transmitting tissue cells stains positively for protein. The pollen exine is cavate and foveolate, but labile protein could be detected only in the thickened intine below germ pores. Self and non-self pollen ofG. banksii, germinated on the stigma, both show normal protein mobilisation and synthesis of wall material. Ectexine of germinated grains consistently appears saccate. Intra- and interspecific pollinations using five other species ofGrevilleaand one ofPersooniaas ‘foreign’ pollen sources, showed no pollen rejection at the stigma or in the upper transmitting tissue. Sporophytic control in compatibility regulation, believed most usual with stylar presentation, is inferred to be absent.

Ten genera and seventeen species of Apocynaceae from Taiwan were studied by means of transmission electron microscopy. Five types of exine stratification are recognized based on ultrastructural features and apparent chemical characteristics. In type I, the nexine corresponds to a foot layer plus the endexine; in type II, the nexine corresponds directly to the foot layer only; in type III, the nexine corresponds directly to the endexine only; in type IV, the nexine is absent and the infratectal stratum is a granular layer and in type V, the nexine is also absent, but the infratectal stratum is a reticular layer at upper and lower portions underlain by a granular layer in the middle with granules of varying size and shape. Except for the species ofTrachelospermum, the rest of the infrageneric taxa can be keyed out by palynological characters. Possible evolutionary trends in exine stratification are proposed.

摘要:
The present paper deals with the results of continuous aeropalynological survey of the atmosphere at Bangalore carried out for the past six years. The aeropalynological survey was conducted by trapping airborne bioparticles such as pollen and fungal spores by operating vertical cylinder pollen traps. The traps were installed at different ecogeographical sites in Bangalore City. The results of qualitative and quantitative analysis of the atmospheric biopollutants are correlated with the meteorological parameters such as temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and cloud cover. It is seen that generally the higher temperature and lower relative humidity enhance the liberation and distribution of pollen in the atmosphere; whereas the higher humidity and lower temperatures trigger the liberation and distribution of fungal spores in the atmosphere. Atmospheric pollen count is drastically reduced during the rainfall.

L'échantillonnage aéropalynologique relevé à Turin (Italie) durant les années 1981 à 1985 avec un capteur du type Burkard a dégagé deux pics de concentration de pollen du genreArtemisia: le premier, plus élevé, se situe entre le 15 et le 20 août; le second, plus bas, entre le 20 et le 25 septembre. Les études sur la végétation de l'agglomération urbaine ont mis en évidence la présence deArtemisia vulgaris, A. annua et A. verlotiorum. L'analyse morphologique du pollen, effectuée au microscope optique, a montré que les grains deA. verlotiorumsont plus grands, suivis respectivement par les grains deA. vulgarisetA. annua. A partir des données aéropalynologiques se rapportant à ces deux pics, on peut affirmer que les grains présents au mois d'août sont du typeA. vulgaris, alors que ceux qui apparaissent au mois de septembre sont du typeA. annuaetA. verlotiorum. Ces résultats sont confirmés par les observations de l'analyse phénologique.

Pollen from twenty different grass species were prepared by a dehydration method and then examined with a light microscope (×800). Although differences were found between the grass pollen species, these were marked insufficiently to provide a key to identification of all the 20 species. Two grass species were found to show typical dehydration features permitting their identification. Pollen from 21 grass species were studied, using incident UV light microscopy. The colour of the cytoplasm, the colour shift of the cytoplasm, the colour of the pollen wall layers and the intensity of the autofluorescence were measured. By this autofluorescence technique 15 of the 21 grass pollen species could be identified.

摘要:
A dynamic time series model for comparison of treatments of allergy, allowing for adjustment to daily pollen counts is proposed. The model takes into account the fact that pollen exposure during previous days affects the symptoms on a given day. It was applied to two clinical trials. Compared with a more traditional regression approach the dynamic model was found to give a better correlation between pollen counts and clinical symptoms.

摘要:
The relative merits of applying contemporary atmospheric diffusional models to reconstructing Quaternary vegetational patterns via modern pollen rain studies are being examined in a continuing research project to model tree-pollen dispersion mathematically in closed-canopy woodlands, and to compare it with the traditional methods of Palynologists. It has been ascertained that the forcing functions required to drive the state-of-art dispersal equations are lacking in the palynological field, and thus limits to the usefulness of trying these are proposed. Finally, applications are suggested to other problems in palynology and present-day atmospheric diffusion.

An extensive survey of the indoor airborne fungal flora of various working environments was carried out in the Calcutta metropolis for three years (June 1980 to July 1983). Nineteen fungal forms from nine genera were trapped by using Rotorod sampler and exposure culture plate method, then isolated and identified. Spores ofAspergilluswere found to occur in highest frequency in all indoor environments, followed byHelminthosporium, Alternaria, Curvularia, Penicillium, Rhizopus, CladosponumandCandida. The relative concentration ofAspergilluswas maximum during the post-monsoon period and minimum during the winter season. All the trapped fungal forms have been proved to be pathogenic and also allergenically potent.

The efficiency of vertical cylinders (5 mm diameter) in monitoring airborne pollen and fungal spores was compared with that of 7 day volumetric Burkard spore trap. The cylinders were found as efficient as Burkard trap in determining the composition of the airspora and their relative daily and seasonal frequency. When the data on spore catch is expressed as no./cm2of the sampling surface, the cylinders monitored the particles of >20 μm size as efficiently as or some time more efficiently when compared to Burkard spore trap. However, when the data is expressed as no./m3of sampled air, the cylinders showed far lesser efficiency in determining the volumetric concentrations of airborne particles.
