Piptocalyx macrurusGilg & Schlechter,P. mooreiOliver andTrimenia neocaledonicaBaker f. have disulculate, globose-elliptic or globose-spherical to globose-elliptic grains, with finely reticulate or rugulose (T. neocaledonica) structure.T. papuanaRidley has dimorphic pollen, with only one type on an individual plant, consisting of either globose-elliptic inaperturate grains, or globose-spherical polyforate grains. Both types have weakly rugulate structure.T. weinmanniifoliaSeeman has globose-spherical polyforate pollen, with similar structure. Exine is tectate-columellate. InT. papuanaandT. weinmanniifoliathe innermost tectum, columellae and foot layer have a partly granular form. Whether this condition is primitive or derived, is not clear. All taxa have a lamellate endexine in non-apertural regions. It is suggested that either disulculate and polyforate pollen has evolved from inaperturate, or that there is a series disulculate → inaperturate → polyforate. Pollen morphology confirms the comparatively isolated position of the Trimeniaceae within the Laurales.

A pollenmorphological investigation of 51 species belonging to the ten genera, constituting the family Chloanthaceae (Benth.) Hutch., using both light and electron microscopy, is presented. Contrary to what has been reported earlier, the family Chloanthaceae has been found to be remarkably eurypalynous. Ten pollen types have been distinguished, and a key for their identification established. A detailed description of each pollen type, made through the combined use of light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy is given. An ultrastructural analysis of the sporoderm of the species investigated is supplemented under the above description. Both intergeneric and intrageneric variations have been encountered. The taxonomic relationship between most of the taxa has not been reflected in their pollen grains; although in some taxa their affinity is clearly evident. Pollenmorphologically there is strong evidence to suggest the splitting of the genusLachnostachys, as well as,Pilyrodia.

摘要:
Low temperature scanning electron microscopy using a cryo-stage permits the examination of sputter coated frozen hydrated material. The technique has been used to compare morphological differences between hydrated pollen from either undehisced anthers or stigmas and dehydrated pollen from dehisced anthers. This enables observations of harmomegathic mechanisms, for which optical microscopy has previously been used, to be made at higher magnifications in the scanning electron microscope.

The pollen was collected with Burkard spore traps in Turku and Jyväskylä, in southern and central Finland. Selected days of high concentration were analysed for hour to hour concentrations. The diurnal variation of pollen concentration was variable inAlnus, Betula, JuniperusandPinus, whilePicea, Populus, Quercus, SalixandUlmushad regular daytime maxima och nightly minima. The pollen concentrations were closely correlated with increasing temperatures and decreasing relative humidities. A significant relationship with wind speed was also found, except inAlnutsandBetula. The most significant relationships with wind speed were found inSalixandQuercus, the pollen of which tends to remain in lumps. Generally, the bigger the pollen grains are, the more their concentrations are dependent on wind speed.PinusandPiceaseem to have a threshold wind speed about 4 m/s above which concentrations become higher.

A backward-elimination, multiple-regression analysis was used to determine which meteorological factors significantly explained the variation measured in concentrations of allergenic spore forms 1.5 m above ground level. Airspora were collected for three years (1976–1978) with volumetric samplers. Adequate moisture is probably the most important variable in spore production. In the imperfect fungi, once the spores are produced, release is often influenced by wind velocity. In the Ascomycetes, radiation, minimum humidity, changes in humidity, and minimum wind velocity were all directly correlated with airborne ascospores, while in the Basidiomycetes, precipitation was the most important variable directly correlated with basidiospores in the atmosphere.
