摘要:
Few viruses have the innate ability to penetrate intact skin. However, once entry into the host is gained by other routes, skin involvement is manifested by a great many viruses whether it be through specific cutaneous tropism resulting in cell death, immunopathologic processes, or even neoplastic transformation. This brief review is by no means comprehensive, the focus being on areas of clinical significance. Rapid progress is being made in the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of the ubiquitous herpesviruses that continue to cause severe complications. Many viruses are now known to infect the fetus and further data available for human parvovirus B19 and rubella. Cutaneous involvement with human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1 has also received recent attention.

摘要:
The atypical presentation of common dermatoses, as well as the Occurrence of rare or previously undescribed skin diseases in patients infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), has provided dermatologists with one of the greatest challenges so far to their diagnostic abilities. HIV-related skin disease also provides an opportunity for reexamining pathogenic mechanisms of common skin disorders. Many of the skin disorders encountered in HIV infection reflect diminishing host immunity, but others, most notably psoriasis, do not. This article does not comprehensively review dermatologic manifestations of HIV disease, but rather highlights articles published in the past year about the subject.

摘要:
Over the last year the world literature has been dominated by papers relating to two factors: 1) the development and launch of new orally active antifungal agents that has resulted in a number of clinical trials of these drugs, and 2) the enormous impact of immunosuppression by human immunodeficiency virus on the incidence and presentation of infections of skin and soft tissues. The two main drugs that have dominated the antifungal literature are itraconazole, which has proven very effective in both superficial and deep fungal infections, and terbinafine, which has been used mainly in the treatment of superficial fungal infections.

摘要:
A number of relatively new antimicrobial agents have been evaluated for use in skin and soft tissue infections, and their results have been reported in the last year. The importance of a favorable agent is significant to the clinician when faced with the ever-increasing number of immunocompromised patients, patients with unusual infections, and patients with infections caused by organisms resistant to first-line therapy. Infection control in the hospital has improved greatly with regard to reducing nosocomial infections through careful skin hygiene. This review introduces the reader to some new developments and antimicrobial indicatiosn in skin and soft tissue infections.
