In the context of trade union membership decline since 1979 the author analyses the pressures which support competition between unions to secure larger shares of the membership in existing organised sectors rather than membership expansion in the growing private services sector

A main finding is that unions are not perceived as catering for the unemployed. Union influence over the member's future employment may nevertheless encourage retentio

摘要:
Industrial relations in rural areas has been little researched. This article reports a study of one such area in Scotland. It emphasises both the extent to which the industrial relations pattern of the area depended heavily on external agencies, and the crucial role of the State.

摘要:
Here the author reviews recent trends and the emerging issues in Canadian industrial relations. The focus is on union organization, the changing economic, labour market and public policy environment, and the key issues facing unions and management. He argues that both unions and management must continue to seek accommodation to survive in the competitive world of the 1990s.
