SummaryThe presence of anti‐Jkbin the serum of a woman causing mild haemolytic disease of the newborn in two children is reported. The woman had never received a transfusion or injection of blood. Her serum also contains anti‐S, but this is probably naturally occurring, as the husband and the children are S negative.RésuméDans le sérum d'une femme dont deux enfants étaient atteints, peu gravement, de maladie hémolytique du nouveau‐né, des anticorps anti‐Jkbfurent démontrés. SummaryThe authors have examined 500 human sera from healthy donors of group AB, with red cells of groups A, B and O, sensitized with incomplete anti‐D, ‐C, ‐E, ‐c, ‐Fyaand ‐K antibodies. Three sera were found which agglutinated sensitized red cells.One of the three sera (serum “Ner”) can be used for the Coombs' test in the same way as anti‐human‐globulin serum of animal origin. The agglutinating factor contained in the serum in question can be absorbed by red cells coated with incomplete antibodies; it cannot be absorbed by red cells agglutinated by complete antibodies of human origin (anti‐A, anti‐B, anti‐M or anti‐H).It was not possible to neutralize this factor either with incomplete antibodies, unless they had been eluted from homologous red cells, or with human gamma globulin, albumin, or normal human serum.The results of the serological reactions have led the authors to assume that the factor found in the serum “Ner” may be an antibody directed against antibody globulins which have undergone structural changes in the course of specific reaction with the corresponding red cell receptors as suggested byMilgromet al.The authors have carried out comparative experiments with human sera from cases of infectious disease (typhoid fever) and from cases with a high red cell sedimentation rate. The possibility that structural changes in the individual's globulins in the course of infectious disease might lead to the production of such a factor as found in the serum “Ner” is discussed.RésuméLes auteurs ont éprouvé 500 sérums humains du groupe AB fournis par des donneurs sains, contre des globules rouges des groupes A, B et O sensibilisés par des anticorps incomplets (anti‐D, ‐C, ‐E, ‐c, ‐Fyaet ‐K). Sie fanden drei Seren, welche sensibilisierte Erythrozyten agglutinierten.Das eine dieser drei Seren (Serum «Ner») konnte anstelle von tierischen Antiglobulinseren für den Coombstest benutzt werden.Der in diesem Serum enthaltene Faktor wurde durch sensibilisierte Erythrozyten absorbiert. Erythrozyten, welche mit kompletten menschlichen Antikörpern (Anti‐A, ‐B, ‐M und ‐H) agglutiniert worden waren, vermochten diesen Faktor nicht zu absorbieren.Dieser Faktor wurde durch inkomplette Antikörper nur dann neutralisiert, wenn diese nach der Bindung an die Erythrozyten eluiert worden waren. SummaryA method is described for storing erythrocytes for up to 17 months. At different times of storage, the agglutinability of the erythrocytes was compared with that of fresh erythrocytes from the same donor. A sufficient agglutination titre was noted after one year of storage.RésuméUne méthode qui permet la conservation de globules rouges pendant une période de jusqu'à 17 mois est décrite. RésuméIl a été possible de démontrer dam le liquide d'une kyste hydatique (provenant d'un foie de mouton) la présence de substance de spécifité P. SummaryA second example of anti‐E which did not react with untreated E positive cells in saline nor by the anti‐human globulin technique is described. It gave very weak reactions in protein media and strong reactions with enzyme treated E positive cells. The antibody could not be absorbed by untreated, but was easily absorbed with enzyme treated E positive cells.Survival studies of Cr51‐tagged E positive cells after transfusion to the patient demonstrated that 50 per cent of the cells were eliminated from the circulation within 6 hours.It is recommended that a screening test with enzyme treated O R1R2cells be performed in addition to the compatibility test when the patient has been transfused previously, to detect antibodies of this type‐RésuméUn second exemple d'anti‐E incapable de réagir avec des globules E positifs en milieu salin ou par le test d'antiglobuline indirect est decrit. L'anticorps ne donne que de très faibles réactions en milieu prothinique, mais, par contre, de fortes réactions quand les globules E positifs sont traités à l'enzyme. De tels globules absorbent l'anticorps facilement, tandis que des globules non traités en sont incapables.Des tests de survie de globules E positifs marques au Cr51dans la circulation du malade ont montré que 50 p. 100 des globules transfusés étaient éliminés au bout de 6 heures. Résumé1. La congélation des erythrocytes en milieu macromoléculaire a été étudiée.2. Lea substances macromoléculaires sont: a) un produit de synthèse, la polyvinyl‐pyrrolidone (subtosan), b) un constituant naturel du plasma, l'albumine.3. Il est constaté que ces produits protègent efficacement les globules rouges contre l'hémolyse par congélation.4. L'influence de différents facteurs tels que pH, concentration en substance efficace, proportion milieu de suspension/globules, etc. est étudiée.5.
